The Legends and Champions pool Tour are happy to announce another Pro Challenge match. The match will be called "The Decider" And will be three days of fun and excitement with two of the greatest pool players on the planet. Earl "The Pearl" Strickland and the "South Dakota Kid" Shane Van Boening. This event will be a three day action packed mix of 8-Ball, 9-Ball and 10-Ball. All races to 30 on a Bar table and will be held at the Eagles 16 lodge in Helena, Montana on August 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Friday the 2nd will start at 6.00pm and then on Saturday and Sunday will start at 2.00pm. The schedule of games played are to be determined.

This will be a match where every rack counts not just winning the set. All racks will count in the final result. In plain English, whoever wins the most racks over the weekend wins. So for example if Shane wins day one 30 to 25, he is 5 racks ahead and then if he wins day two 30 to 25 he is 10 racks ahead. Therefore on day three Earl would have to really come with it as he would be 10 racks behind with 30 racks up for grabs. Again this will make for an exciting three days of play.

Most know that These Champions have played challenge matches on different sized tables. Earl beat Shane when they played on a TAR mach on a 10 foot table, then Shane won the TAR match on a 9 foot table and so it only makes sense to play the "Decider" on bar table with a mix a different games.

This event will be a Pay Per View event, we are working with Daniel Busch of POV Pool to try and keep the price for the three days as low as possible and that will be announces also. POV Pool made it very clear that this match will NOT be appearing on youtube a few days after the match as they usually do and so the only time to see this will be during the event itself. We will be looking into the possibilities of looping the match over the weekend for those who have purchased.

This time our main sponsors and the reason this match is happening are Shellie's Country Cafe and the Fraternal Order Of Eagles in Helena, Montana. I will be announcing our other sponsors once we have them all in place. A very BIG thank you to Shellie's Country Cafe who put put the majority of the money for "The Decider" and and other big thanks you to the F.O.E who didn't hesitate to jump on board.

Admission to the event will be just $25.00 per person for the whole weekend and please feel free to contact Mark Cantrill at cantrillmark@yahoo.com if you have any questions.

Not sure about the overall rack count.

In your example, in the third set, Shane can't get past 20 games. If he does, do they continue to play? I doubt Earl would keep playing when he knows there's no chance of winning in that example.

This is exciting as I'm trying to mimic Earl's game and want to watch him as much as possible. Was so disappointed that TAR was boycotting him. Glad someone who has experience traveling with him knows they can handle him.

That's very cool, Mark. Sounds like quite an event.

I especially like that its being held at an Eagles Club. :p

I play out of our Eagles Club most of the time. I'm trying to envision a scenario like yours at our club....not very likely, but an amusing thought, nonetheless.

Best of luck, I hope its a big success.

Thanks for your support Dub, we have actually done a few events at the Eagles in the past and they have a private room that has lots of space and thats where we do our stuff. Great people in Montana and the Eagles are a good bunch of people. I can imagine how it would seem funny though if I didn't know what was waiting for me there.

I think a tie is very unlikley but if it happens we will have to come up with some kind of sudden death or play best of 3 games one of each of the games.

Not really thinking about the tie. Just what happens on the 3rd day if the set is far from over, but one of the players can't win because now they're too far behind in the overall count.

What's to stop Earl from throwing one of his usual tantrums and just walking away?

I know it's unlikely, but the possibility is there.

Hi Baxter, the table is something that I hope to get sorted out next week. There is a good chance that it will be a Valley table though.

If it is a Valley, maybe the coin machine guy has one with Ridgeback rails on it. If he doesn't maybe Ridgeback will donate a set for a banner ad and a shout out on the PPV. I believe it would make for a better match. If you really want to go all out on a Valley, extend the Ridgebacks to 4" pockets. Even this won't slow these two guys down much but it will make the break not a gimmie. Johnnyt

Mark this is going to be a good time. Great venue. It will be interesting to see if Earl can keep his composure "LET'S HOPE". See ya there buddy

Beiberlvr, you have a very valid point here. Although I have a feeling it will be close there is for sure a chance that someone can put a string together and get way out in front. If I can get like $1,500 more in sponsorship maybe I will try and re look at it and pay $500 per set. I can't promise that as we are already on a shoestring budget. However I totally get your point and something needs to be done.

I would like the AZB community as involved as possiblke with this event and and will from time to time as you guy's opinion.
Here is a start. Alternating break or not? What are the pros and cons to this?

Well, then the match is OVER, right. Then Earl or Shand should collect their check, pack their bags and move on. Who wants to see someone keep shooting after they have LOST ?? So, yes, somebody can lose before the thrid set is complete...... I see no problem with that

PS: Mark, this is a fantastic idea, and I'm gonna have to find a way to make this trip !!!!

A suggestion made for another stream by someone else on the forum was to distribute the prize fund across all 3 sets. 1/4 for the first two sets and 1/2 for the third set.

I prefer winner breaks. I always thought alternate break was just a ploy to keep the match close.

With that being said, I actually think alternate breaks would be better for the current format. Especially with two top players on a bar box.

Correct, but will the paid viewers be okay with that? I suspect some will, but not all.
