I have a 3/8x11 (or is it 3/8x11 1/2). What is the difference and why ?
Someone said the 11 1/2 was an "Atlas" joint pin. Are there also slightly different pins for other sizes, such as Schon's pin ?
THANKS~!

There are many ways to build a cue and every maker finds a pin they prefer. If machined properly and installed correctly there is little difference to the cues playability. A 3/8-11 has eleven threads per inch while a 5/16-14 had fourteen threads per inch, it's that simple.

Brian, thanks for your input, but most 3/8 screws go directly into the shaft wood and if the screw was a 1/11th of an inch different, it would eventually ruin the female screw slot. How does anyone, (without measuring very carefully), know which screw size it is? Is there such a thing as a "Atlas" screw that is a slightly different size?
Thanks

Atlas offers so many...

The best way to identify the pin is measure it's diameter and counting the threads per inch. Atlas doesn't sell 3/8-11 pins to my knowledge but they do sell a 3/8-10. Do you have a 3/8-10 shaft to try it on? If it goes in without getting overly tight then you have a match.

This cue is a Mike Stacey from 2002 and he uses 3/8x11. I will try to contact him directly unless I get other info.
Thanks

The Stacey pin is 3/8x11.
The 3/8x11-1/2 you mentioned is used exclusively on Bludworth cues.
NO, they're not interchangeable.

To determined the thread count of a pin is pretty easy.
Lay a scale next to the pin and count the number of peaks/points in 1".
Don't count the peak at zero but every one thereafter until you get to the 1" mark.
Count that one.
