I'm here to help

Ah, I found it, in his own "Pendulum stroke sweet spot" thread. No surprise, he OCD'ed himself to forum death in that one. I knew it was coming after my run-ins with him a while back -- it was just a matter of time.

Anyway, I'm sure there are many breathing breaths of fresh air after all that! Poor Randy, Scott Lee, Neil, nobcitypool, Tony_in_MD, Fran, et al.

Gosh, the drama we miss when we're away from the forums for a spell!

Now the "Ask the Instructor" subforum is back on track, and the title of this thread can be truly representative.

Not meaning to hijack Randy's thread but my name was mentioned here. I have no problems at all with Rick. I always answer his questions as honestly as I can and in turn he is respectful back. I've seen plenty of the "you don't know what you're talking about" stuff addressed towards him. Frankly, I'd be pissed off as all hell if you all spoke to me like that. So please don't include me in that group who is relieved that he is gone.

Now back to Randy's thread...

Sorry about that, Fran. Just saw him quoting your name quite copiously in his "go off" posts, and thought that you, too, were in amongst the thick of it. By the way, not sure why you said "you all" (to presumably include me), because I wasn't even here when this all went down. Sure, I've had my problems with Rick -- I think he's obsessive-compulsive and even proved it in his own pendulum stroke thread. But I wasn't even here for this latest go-round.

Apologies to Randy as well, for diverting his thread. 'Twas supposed to be "making a funny" about Randy's little joke, but got caught up in the fact it were true.

Carry on.

That's great advice Doc, thanks

I was working on something that Johnny Archer recommended in London .... like a catapult delivery on the break shot. He does it extremely effectively and I'm getting it down now - just remembered he said it bothered his back too for awhile. Anytime we try new movements/techniques it takes some getting use to, we're only human. ;)

I worked on a new Break concept for 6 months and this last week had to put it into action in Las Vegas.

The Break was the best part of my game. Boy does that open up some new patterns on the table. Finished in 4th and 17th place in two events.

Could you explain how do YOU use CTE, how you align for different shots, how do you pivot etc.

Mirza

I have been using CTE for many years. I align all shots the same way and I pivot in the air. I teach CTE at least twice a week. That takes about an hour with hands on instruction.

I'm using the Break Rak now and it's forcing me to hit many more breaks

That's great, Randy, the break certainly sets up the offensive opportunities. I believe it's too much a factor in the game right now, however, "when in Rome, do as the Romans".

I'm using the Break Rak now and it's forcing me to hit many more breaks therefore putting emphasis on certain muscles directly (that aren't use to it).

I feel much better today, even without the "two aspirins". ;)

That's great, Randy, very respectable finishes - the break certainly sets up the offensive opportunities. I believe it's too much a factor in the game right now, however, "when in Rome, do as the Romans".

I also had some major back problems earlier this year when doing mother drills and being in positions for longer periods of time. I went to the doctor and got X-rays, they said I had arthritis, my chiropractor thought the doctor was nuts and got my muscles to shift and relax and then I began using the stretches in the following link and no longer do I have any pain. I do take an Aleve if I know I am going to be playing for long periods of time but I think it is just being preventative!

I really want to get a break rack. One thing that really helped me was the breaking section in Lessons in 9 Ball by Blackjack. It's so simple yet effective. Consistently stopping the CB dead center on almost all my breaks now.

one of the best pool investments I have ever made. I love my break-rak!

Breakrak can save for sure some time...but noone should forget to also practice with the normal rack. It s very important to learn to read the rack. You need the expirience to know what happens if you break with lower speed from same spot....as well what happens if u just change the spot from whitey.

The Break Rak is as important for pool as the punching bag and speed bag for boxers

Yes, I agree, the Break Rak helps more than just the break, it's also a great "stroke trainer" with the proper regiment. I may be helping them design a workout routine designed to make anyone's stroke more powerful and accurate.

The Break Rak is as important for pool as the punching bag and speed bag for boxers. I'm sold, that's for sure.

Thanks to all who helped. If anyone would like, I will continue this post in a couple of weeks.

I sure had fun on this thread alone. No hi-jackers...neat.

What do you think?

Randy (slash, everyone else), I have a question...

What is the best way to start meeting people in the pool community? Especially the people worth meeting?

Depends on what you mean by worth knowing. If you mean billiard knowledge it's a minefield. I learned taking direction from someone I thought knew what they were doing cause they played pretty good,
then I started playing around some of the best in the world and found out different.
Pool rooms where the best players play and tournaments is all I can think of but like I said some good players are willing to help but it's not always the best source.

Therein lies the rub: "Especially the people worth meeting." It depends on who you feel are worth meeting.

I've met my share of upstanding citizens in pool rooms who are as polite as can be, but wouldn't hesitate to stab you in the back --- in such a nice way, of course. (Yeah sure).

Then I've met some pretty hardened criminals in pool rooms who most people would be afraid to walk on the same side of the street with, yet who strangely enough have a code of honor that isn't such a bad thing at all when used in the right way.

First you have to meet the people, then you have to get to know them, then you can decide who is worth knowing. My point is that some 'nice' people really are nice inside. Some aren't as nice as they appear. The same for the ones with bad reps. Some deserve them. Some don't.

To meet people in pool, become a regular at your local billiard establishment. Get on a table and play. You'll meet people.
