... how did you score on the your exam, SpiderMan?
I hope Spidey decides to practice the exams and post videos.

It would also be cool if you (CJ) would take the exams (and post videos if convenient). I haven't gotten results or tested any past or current world-class players yet. Would you be willing to take the exams and post your score? BTW, a touch of inside works very well on the stun shot drill.

Thanks,
Dave

Good going Gerry! When I saw your first test, I figured you were going to take it over. You looked like you got disgusted with yourself at one point, and then just went through the motions for the rest of it.

However....... I must also now say- up yours buddy! I No longer can I say that of the entire existence of the human race, I was one of only 5 to actually graduate from the Billiard University, and I had the highest score ever recorded! I guess that "honor" now goes to you.....(maybe only for a little while though ):D

Not happy with the 70 either - missed the 4 ball in a 9 ball rotation rack. I will get to 85 in the second exam this week :)

The results are close but I can do better.

I am ranked semi-pro in 9 ball and a Masters player by the VNEA.

The exam is a good test, you have to remain focused throughout.

I enjoyed it and will do the exam 2 again soon.

Cheers,
Gerry

I was disappointed in the certificate titles for passing the tests.

Instead of Fundamentals, Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate, I propose

Rack Boy,

Assistant Bunter,

Bunter and

Distinguished Hustler.

Distinguished Hustler being accompanied by your first name being a city.

The benchmarks should have more character. That is of paying dues and
individual study.

Anyone can get a doctorate, honorary doctorate by giving a university
commencement address or donating a new wing of a college.

Neil,

Nobody has achieved the "Doctorate with Honors" level yet. Maybe you can be the first, but you will need to find a 9' table that won't break the bank, with all of the practice it will take.

Catch you later,
Dave

A 165 would put you in the "semi pro" BU rating category, so it seems like the rating is in the ball park for you. I haven't tested the upper end of the scale with any professional players, but I hope to do so in the near future. I worry that even with focus, a professional player might have a tough time scoring over 180 consistently. What do you or others think?

Thanks again for participating and for setting the AZB BU bar so high; although, I hope it doesn't scare off other people from posting lower scores. I was hoping to see a much wider range of scores to get more feedback on the rating system.

BTW, your link to part 1 of Exam I was wrong, but I found the right video and corrected the link in the first post of the thread.

Catch you later,
Dave

That's cute. :thumbup2:

If you attend our Summer School Boot Camp, and donate a large sum of money to the BU, and give the inaugural commencement address to out first set of summer school graduates, maybe we will consider giving you an honorary "Assistant Bunter" diploma. What do you think?

Sure, Doc, give me a day or two to get caught up, I'm up to my "butt wrap" in .......

Sure, Doc, give me a day or two to get caught up, I'm up to my "butt wrap" in deadlines right now. I like your exams, and would enjoy being a "sample example" now that my game's back on track. I've been doing a lot of unique training drills to fine tune my stroke, just hard to replace competition and that's what I'm lacking most.

Thanks, Dave

Play Well, the Givers are the Winners

Thanks Ken. We were hoping to get a wide range of scores and ratings from beginner to professional so we could see how well people thought the BU rating system worked. I look forward to you and others posting their scores (with or without videos).

Thanks,
Dave

I ran through Exam 1 Friday night as the storm moved into my area. But knowing I had no time I didn't setup camera. I scored a 61 on it. Never made a bonus point. Was disappointed to say the least. I don't think I rushed the exam. Like I said earlier, unless I am nervous my focus/concentration is terrible. It is a tendency I have not figured out how to resolve....yet. Maybe these exams will help me get to it.

My scores on the first 5 were all 6's. I scored 9 on potting (missed second straight in shot....sorry Ingo :embarrassed2: ). Made 11 on both the wagon wheel and and target sections.

I have a lot of work to do!

I found the fundamentals test to be a good exercise and I will use it in my practice and eventually make a video as time allows. I still have debris to be cleaned up around my property, and I just encountered straight winds that night!

Thank you for your efforts Dr. Dave!

Ken

That's awesome. I look forward to seeing your results and getting your feedback on the exams and the BU rating system.

I hope the storms are over now ... especially the bad ones.

I look forward to seeing your total score and videos for both Exam I and II. Thank you for participating.

Lots of qualifiers.

I would hold out for full Bunter.

Al

And I do like the tests.

You drive a hard bargain. As Dean, I think I can authorize "Honorary Full Bunter." :grin-square:

And I do like the tests.
Thanks. Please consider posting scores and letting us know how the BU rating compares to what you expected.

Catch you later,

Dr.Dave this thread is going good-congrats!!
Thanks. I'm glad people seem to like the BU exams and rating system so far. I still wish more people would post scores though. I was hoping we would have a much bigger range. Hopefully, CJ can push the top end of the range a little. I hope people will be comfortable posting in the lower end also and comment on whether or not they think their BU rating is appropriate given their level of play.

Thanks again,
Dave

Okay want to start off saying a big thanks to Dr Dave and group. I ran through the BU Exam 1 after my straight pool match today. I did not have time to move the the second exam, but I can tell you, I like this. Great stuff!

I finished the Exam 1 kind of where I thought I would -- 59 total. The sad part is I totally sucked the stun drill -- finished with a one. That really surprised me. The good part is I certainly know what to work on! Hope to finish the Masters Part 2 drills and post up this week. No video as I am playing at a pool hall - I have no pool table at home. :(

F1 cut - 6 ( made none from 7)
F2 stop - 8
F3 follow - 10
F4 draw - 8
F5 stun - 1 (ouch!)
F6 potting - 7
F7 wagon - 9 (missed all at 7-10!)
F8 target - 10 (struggled with positions 2 and 3)

Again thanks to Dr Dave and group! Truly appreciate what you are giving back to the community!

Please post your total score after you finish Exam II, with or without videos (although, cameras work in pool halls also ;)).

You might want to check out the following online videos. They might help some with your F5, F7, and F8 scores:
NV D.8 - Stun Shot Drill - from Vol-II of the Billiard University instructional DVD series
NV D.10 - Draw Shot Trisect Aiming System - from Vol-II of the Billiard University instructional DVD series
NV D.11 - Cue Ball Control Target Pool Drill - from Vol-II of the Billiard University instructional DVD series

I'll be curious to see which Exam II drills give you trouble.

Again thanks to Dr Dave and group! Truly appreciate what you are giving back to the community!
You're welcome ... and thank you for participating. I'm glad you like what you see so far.

Catch you later,
