Carom King conversion?

Hi,

I came into a Brunswick Carom King today. It has some dings in it, but it is in otherwise fantastic shape. The butt diameter is huge, almost 2" across. [I will get my calipers out shortly to get the full specs] I can't imagine it would be hard to turn down to normal pool diameters, add some ringwork, Hoppe ring, joint and buttcap.

I know the Carom Kings are sought after as collectibles more than anything, but the wood is great, the veneers look crisp, the points are all even within 1/32", and it is dead straight.

It is asking me to shoot with it.

What do I do?

2" across, I believe it.

I have 6 Tru Balance waiting in the wings and these could double for base ball bats in the mean time. 5 of them not so bad but I have an Oak one that
you could use for a tire or fish bonker too. People bonker too if you don't have the luxury of a Trunk Money.

Not for my little girly fingers thats a fer sure. They will be getting taken down just a tad.

None of the dings are deep at all. Turning the cue down a bit will eliminate all of them, I am sure.

Also, what is this ball I got with it? It has a black dot on each side, opposite the other. For 3-Cushion? It is huge [and HEAVY], and the slightest bit oblong? Possible ivory? :yikes:

The damage to the butt will come out when it is turned down.

Above the point is not so bad. Within the points may be a bit worse. I don't know if these are too deep as to try and pop them.

Believe it or not, I have done repairs on points using tooth picks sanded to shape and stained.

I save saw dust and use it to fill in different woods. Not 100% perfect but it works. May see the repair a bit but it is always better than before.

Looks like a great find and very much worth making it into a decent player.

Sawdust is a great idea! I will make sure I get the right color readied before I make any decisions. I see a couple of slight gaps at the point bottoms that could be filled in.


Any ideas on value here? My wife is rolling her eyes that I bought it, but I had to have it as soon as I saw it.
 
Also keep in mind that if you cannot get the right colored saw dust, you can get furniture repair powder in different colors. This allows you to use a maple dust and color the epoxy
with the right pigment.

I only have white and black on hand but there is no doubt many different colors of brown available. After all, it is used for furniture repair and restoration.

The saw dust is course, of course. I put enuff in the palm of my hand and grind it with my fingers until it is in powder form as well.
 
Normally I would say leave as is but with the label so messed up I say convert this baby!
The wood could be a Rosewood but I don't think Brazilian.
On many of these old cues the value lies in the condition of the label. They are a rare find and I have been hoping to find one of these and a Brunswick Keen shot for many years.
 
Ah shame, I didn't realize the sticker was the killer. I know someone makes reproduction stickers. Do we know who that is? If I convert it, it may be nice for the aesthetics.

I dunno if anyone does, but if you don't have any luck... send me a PM.
I think I can recreate the sticker pretty exactly from the photos, and get it into a computer file
that you can bring to any sign or print shop. They'll then print it on cut vinyl that you can apply yourself.
I used to do stuff like this for work all the time... old boat decals, recreating obscure brand logos, etc.

For $15 I won't trouble anyone to draw one for me digitally unless this one is a pile of crap. I'll order one from them and let everyone know the quality.

Has anyone ordered any of these decals before and can weigh in? Wouldn't mind saving $15 if they are known garbage repros.
