Table for Outdoors but Under Cover - Central FL

I would like to buy a table for my patio. It would be outdoors but under cover. I looked at one of the true outdoor tables did not like the way the ball rolled and came off the bumpers. I am a recreational player at best.

Spoken to quite a few stores and even a couple of Mfg.'s. Getting a lot of different stories what I should buy. Solid wood, Mdf wood combo, etc????? It should not get rained on but will be outside under cover in Central Fl.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Robert

Hi Robert, welcome to AZ. I live in Longwood and sent you a pm, good luck, there are some good deals around here depending on what size table you want. Tom

A table outside in Florida would be unplayable most of the time, the temperature and humidity will kill your cloth and cushions. You'll probably have to replace both every 6 months.

Although in the Phillipines they seem to have half their tables outside, but their standards for those are probably pretty low.

First of all I am not by any means an expert on this subject. I find your statement not to be correct.
Actually I have 2 friends that live in the same community that I do that have indoor tables that are out doors not even under cover. They keep a full length cover on the tables. The tables have been on there patios for 3 to 4 years. They still play very well.

There is a table mechanics section here also, you may want to post your question there as well. I've never played on a table outside, but several rooms I played in had their doors open during hot weather and they were pretty much useless to play on. It was like playing on a wet shirt.

our patio pool expert is johnnyt.

I'd expect he'll chime in shortly with first-hand experience.

Thank you Black Balled. Yes I've had a 7' 45 year old Valley on my screened patio for almost 10 years. I probably changed the cloth on the Valley an average of once per year. It plays just about perfect still when humidity is low (under 50 %). I don't know of any other table but a Valley that would stand up to 10 years where it is. I'm very happy I tried it. I've had over 10,000 hours of enjoyment on it in those almost 10 years. Johnnyt

Not get rained on? Who are you kidding? It rains sideways in Central FL several times a year. I never saw it rain up but I would not be surprised if it did.

Like Johnnyt said, I have seen Valley bar tables outside in Central fl and they seem to be holding up OK. They play slower than hell because of the humidity.

Several times a year? Several times last month alone....

I also live in Florida and I'd go with a Valley and Simonis HR cloth along with a vinyl heavy duty cover.

Both the valley and hr are designed for heavy commercial use, so they'd pose the best results. The cover is a great idea any where you have a table.
