Female players

Hi I`ve been watching quite a few matches with female players now and without being a biggot i must say that the level of play is quite unimpressive and it`s is so slow compared to the male players. Mika has run a hundred balls before two girls can finish a set of 10 balls.
I am of the opinion that there should be no male and female divinsions in pool as i don`t see that one gender has a edge over the other. And I`m simply wondering if the level is so low for the female players due to the fact that pool traditionally isn`t a womans sport and since the divisions is gender spesific the female players never get to play with the top guys and therefore the progression is so bad??

I don't think the standard is low, or that games take an age to finish in womens billiards. A lot of top women players do practice with a lot of the top guys, but I'm a firm believer that playing "better" players will not improve your game. If you were to play SVB in practice for a month the only thing that you'd get better at is sitting down. Most of the women players out there that are concidered top pros have to work a normal job too, so they can't afford to put in 8+ hours a day practice like the guys do.

Would you be willing to play my 14 year old neice for a few grand at snooker? Tell me the standard of womens billiards is low once she makes an 80 break on you ;)

I clicked on a link someone posted, that was suppose to be in Tunica, and there was two ladies playing a match that seemed to play at a very s l o w C level. They need a shot clock in all tournaments. Its one thing to just play bad, we all do at times, but playing bad and playing super slow, just makes it unbearable to watch. I could only stand two games, but they must have taken 20 minutes or more.

Slow play?

It's not logical or fair to extrapolate from one or two examples to all women players. There are slow male players as well.

If you want speed, go to Youtube and watch "Speed Pool".

Also, don't judge all women's skills by the current level of play among American pros. When and where the top players are performing is rather cyclical. Plus, the rest of the world is catching and surpassing Americans in many sports. Granted, this is hard to swallow for folks who think America is always # 1 and it must be so...

I was pretty impressed with the 3 rail kick Angel Paglia did last night to win her match.

Her CB speed was a little off on some shots, but she is definitely many levels above C.

That being said, a shot clock would be nice.

I've never seen a woman play snooker, let alone a 14 year old girl who can make an 80 break. Impressive.

I've watched quite a few female matches on youtube from asia tournaments with a shot clock. Much faster paced and more enjoyable to watch. The emily dudd match yesterday after 8 games was about two hrs long. Also the females might be better off playing 9 ball.

Allison, Kelly Fisher and Karen were all World Champion snooker players before switching to pool. I hope you literally meant 'see'. If not, you don't know much.

I've seen the pro females play amazingly with a shot clock too. But if you are in a match that doesn't have a shot clock why should you hurry.

Sorry we can't all shoot without giving it a thought like Mosconi

BTW I had a male last week go take a potty break in the middle of his turn before moving to the next shot. Priceless!!!

Comparing a top regional player to the top 10% of world-level competitors shows a huge gap exists, regardless of gender.

You can bet on the fact that the top women can flat out play. So can de men.

Smaller pond, smaller "big" fish. But some of those "little" big female fish can pan fry most men. If they mixed more, I think their level of play would be on par with the men for the pros but not necessarily across all levels.

There is also a significant difference in spatial skills between a traditional female brain and a man's. It's not bigoted to ask at all, it's a valid question that gets blurred by the PC crowd. Women are also far better at communication than men.

That's bullshit. Who told you that?

My wife, everytime she scolds me like a little boy. :(

He doesn't know, wasn't really paying attention.

Thanks for my morning laugh gents.

JC, it's very well known that male and female brains simply do not work the same way. The short-short-short version is this:

If you're a creationist think of it in terms of the bible: God made women different.

If you're not a creationist it's just evolution. Men specialized in areas like hunting which requires excellent spatial skills for throwing weapons and capturing prey. Women specialized in caring for family units which required more organizational skills such as communication.

I'm certain you can look the information up.

Maybe a woman's division in Bonus Ball would help them improve their overall skill level and speed of shooting? (trying to keep a straight face......trying to keep a straaaaaaaaaaa.....)

There have been anumber of tourneys tha hav invited the ladies to play in them alongside th men, I thing Karen Corr did pretty good th last on I remember. I remember the US Open 9-Ball hav been letting the ladies in and one of the bigger CSI events too but the top women players never really get very far.

My biggest problem with letting the ladies play in mens tourneys is A) they wont let the men play in their tourneys and B) The promoters have been adding a prize for top female finisher. That is unfair,if they want to play alongsde the men then do it. Giving a special cash prize because you are a woman shoul be frowned upon even bythe women.
