Pulling up in the middle of a set when score is tied

Inexcusable behavior

There is no excuse for what Orcullo did. Hard to believe the best gambler in the world would do this, but there is no honor anymore.

This sort or crap is why people don't travel to the big events and matchup as much. At SBE I saw a lot of people never get into games and leave with their powder dry. I was looking to matchup or back anybody who would play on Sunday there and it was just pathetic. People just wouldn't make games unless they had the nuts. There were probably 5 big sets over 4 days there, it's getting to be ridiculous.

Yeah, there's definitely a lot of honor in conning someone into an impossible game and trying
to deceive them out of an extra thousand once they've been suckered.
Do you even understand the meaning of the word?

This is like someone switching the price tags of two similar items at the store,
and the owner catches them at the register, so they say "wow, what a douche.
I switched those price tags without getting caught, so I deserve the lower price.
Screw you for not sitting still while I take money out of your wallet."

the guy pictured in creedo's avatar probably never did anything shady.

All I've heard about him doing for the past few years is playing on the level with world champions.
You hear any differently? He's pictured there because I really like his game, his work ethic,
and his personality (what I know of it). If I find out Shane's done some sleazy shit, I'll put up something else.

But you're forgetting that this is the stuff movies are made of, i.e., "The Color of Money," "The Hustler." In pool, there's a weird sort of romance or adventurism to it. I can't explain it, but it's there. People like the hustle in pool.

They made movies about the mafia too, and I can be entertained by those movies, but I don't glorify guys who love tommy guns and cocaine.

Yeah, Rob laid it down good, acting like he was a bad player, shooting off his thumb until the bet was made. He's a good hustler and he definitely trapped Dennis. Other people reported this move to me. They told me later that Rob got Dennis in a trap. Congrats to him for being such a good hustler. That's something to be proud of.

I was not going to post any more in this thread than my original post, but now I have to call BULLSHIT. Rob had been in the action room for several days, and anyone with even the smallest of brains could tell was a player if they had watched him at all. If the game he was showing during those days was him laying down then DO should not play him at all LOL. Dennis thought there is no way this fat guy can beat me and thought he had a lock. Dennis found out he was wrong.

edit: Rob please don't take offense to the term I used in this post. I only use it because that it how Dennis described you. If you remember me I'm not exactly a thin person myself.

i had the front seat saw it from the beginning dennis thought the big guy was a sucker he saw the big guy hit the six ball into the rail while they where making the game good move rob dennis ran so fast to a gentile men from memphis and got the money from him i dont know where jay came into the picture.dennis ran so fast to get the money he thought he was stealing.i dont know how anybody could have any respect for him.my opion good thing it happen at a tournment not in a poolroom.Jay good for standing up for him i dont think you are going to convince everybody dennis is a great guy and by the way jay you said dennis learn this from the americans i dont know of any american player who pulled this on him if i am wrong please correct me. dennis pulled a move the only thing he didnt remember he was on live stream and everyone watching saw what happen

Yea Jay, like you have never trapped anyone. Can you even name a player who has played pool for years that hasn't trapped someone? Scooter trapped Dennis at the derby one year with close to the same game, remember? You always claimed many of the old hustlers who are gone where your heroes, what changed?

Creedo, when Orcullo agreed to the game then that's it, play the set out. I really don't understand his problem. Okay he's down like 6-0 or so and then they pull even at 8. So why not just bear down and be a champion? He's an idiot for thinking he is good enough to beat a guy with break and ball in hand from his chair. I am pretty sure he knows you can't stop a guy with that game who can run out. If he is used to giving the spot he must win with it some right?

When you play anybody at a big event sometimes you get a somebody , even if nobody knows who he is. He showed his true color, which to me is yellow.

I agree.. except when it comes to people that are gamblers, people who do this kind of thing for a living - like two used car salesman trying to do a trade. Dennis has probably robbed plenty of people that thought they had a good game. From how it sounds, he's put money up plenty of times.. I don't think he's usually on the bad end of the odds. He bit on the wrong hook this time. The problem I see is that Rob allowed Dennis to get away with it. It sets a bad precedent, though, but all in all this case is between them.

I don't take offense to the term. I have thick skin don't worry. By the way we actually don't know that is how Dennis described me. You are going by what jay said in his first response. Since me and Jay have some history I think he was just taking a shot that nobody but me would notice..Dennis might have said some big guy we don't know.. Imagine what everyone would of said if I told them that when I asked Dennis in the hallway who he borrowed the money from and his response was " some short, bald, mouthy *****"

I can feel the love...you should have kept all the money, I would have. Robbing Orcullo! What a joke.

I can't believe this comment, It is called matching up . I have been on both ends of this. There is nothing wrong with making a game to your advantage. You have hustled many over your lifetime, I am sure. All of the old road trips. Trying to defend Dennis in this spot is useless. Dennis should pay in full. Not 50%. Dennis has been around far too long to know right from wrong. I wish I could of quit many times when I knew I made a bad game. Betting way more than a dime. I finished the set and paid off. Don't you like it Jay, when you get the nuts. I do, because it is rare. Dennis made a bad game, congrats Rob the way you handled the situation. You paid $850 to Dennis to let him out of the set. Do you think Rob should have asked Dennis to play even ? I am sure you would have pulled out the stack if this was the case.
Gary Lutman

LMFAO thanks Gary I appreciate. The best part of all of this is Jay makes money off a book he wrote called " Pool Wars" LMFAO and he has the balls to come on here crying that I got Dennis in a trap. Everytime Dennis goes to the table he has the best of it and I don't see him issuing any refunds. It was all fine and good 2 years ago when he robbed a kid form Miami names Chris playing even 10 ball for $ 25 a game. That was a sweet deuce you and dennis won that time Jay wasn't it? Jay brags about Jack Cooney all the time and then has the balls to complain that I hustled the best player in the world... Jay get a grip and listen to what the hell you are saying

sticking up Dennis

I'm 99% sure who it is and giving up break and BIH is an absolute stick up. Dennis had zero chance in the long run. He was fortunate enough to be at 8-8 and get let out of the trap for only $150. Just my two cents..

If both players agree to pull up its fine but...

IMO its bad action to even bring up the possibility of wiping a set in the middle of the set.If you are running into time constraints and its tied both parties might want to quit.If some1 starts talking in this situation and claims he wants out and call it even because he doesn't like the game, that is either a move or something but he is way out of line.Once you make a bet play the set. That being said if he really doesn't like the game he can offer a buyout.

This post is impressive Jay even for someone who speaks out of both sides of his mouth as often as you do. You have managed in the same thread mind you to say both..... Dennis had a chance to win.. and now Im a hustler who definitely trapped Dennis... So which is it Jay? Did he have a chance to win or was he trapped? you can't have it both ways Jay... You see Jay when you made your original offer and post in this thread you wanted to make it look like dennis could have won so he really didn't do something that bad.. Now all of a sudden when that fell on deaf ears you say the exact opposite and say dennis was in a trap. By the way Jay I shoot with an open bridge off my thumb 95% of the time. By the way Jay if dennis called you like you said he did and said he was going to play some fat guy, did you make sure to tell Dennis if the fat guy doesn't have a chance make sure you give the money back Dennis? GIVE ME A FRIGGING BREAK JAY

Dennis played Chip Compton One Pocket for $2,000 and everyone said he was the underdog. He was behind 4-2 and 6-0 in balls in a Race to Six and somehow managed to win 6-4. No one got robbed! Dennis had to overcome a tough opponent to win. Some bad info here.

You conveniently left out the part where Dennis won the 2nd set 6 to 0 Jay.. Im sure it was just an oversight. Won $ 6000 Unlike you Jay I was in the action room for all of this. Dennis won 12 games to 4 overall.. I was just curious how much Dennis gave Chip back seeing how the game was that out of line?

I recently let a guy out of a race to 8 for 50..I was up 6-2 and he was stalling for time and whining a bit.He kept yakking about the bar maybe closing and could we go to his house to finish the set LOL.

I was sorta laughing at his moves (to myself) but I offered to let him out for 40 witch I think is pretty fair. The guy countered with an offer of 20 bucks hehe.

Because I want to play the guy some more in the future I let him out for 30,a real bargain for him IMO.Letting some1 out for 150.00 in a 1K set is absurd IMO but it was not me playing.Giving some1 such a huge discount make me think maybe it was not such a lock as reported and there may have been other reasons for both parties to call it.

As long as the buy out was a mutual agreement I don;t see any problem here.

P.S. good thread.

The only reason he got a $ 150.00 buyout was because he was literally whining and crying to me in the hallway, begging me to only take $ 100. I felt bad. Now I wish I hadn't given him anything.

You old softy.

I have this same problem I am no SCK..They tell me you have to be to get the dough but everyone is different I guess.

Im not sure I can top your situation Rob but I think I told you about the guy, that playing a race to 16, ran a 9 pack playing 10 ball and then quit winner after one set.
I actually had 2 Europeans beat me soundly with a big spot and quit after one set.
Is that the culture in Europe? Or foreign countries?
