AZB Pool Tournament at BCAPL in Vegas!

Couple of things:

JoeT is trying to get the AZ tournament to play at a different time than the Texas Bumps. That is a good thing - so they can play in both. (Texas Bumps is $5,000 prize fund - $2,000 for first).

He said AZ players could play in the Texas Bumps at no fee. That is not what he meant. There could be a free 'AZ event' but you cannot mix paid and non-paid playrs in one event.

Joe is driving and cannot make this correction but will confirm it.

As far as the event. There are 31 players. I still think single elimination is the way to go. Too many are going to be like me - they can get there but they cannot hang around waiting. I predict you will lose too many players if you do Double elimination. There should be a way to sign up on site and that means having an even larger field.
DE is going to drag out and become a burden - IMHO.

This is about meeting people and putting names with faces. Not about who is the best player or any of that stuff.

There will be a LOT of things going on besides the Texas Bumnps event. There will be a BEF fundraiser (Challenge the Stars) around 6 PM There will be 6 Pocket Challenges and other things.

Just my thoughts - I dont want this to become a chore or a burden on anyone. Keep it fun! I also suggest just doing a simple paper chart. (Who gonna provide the chart)?

Mark Griffin

Thanks for the information, Mr. Griffin!

I agree that if we indeed have 32+ time will become an issue. I am quite sure the number will go up and down before we crack our first rack. I will adjust accordingly to the number of players, number of tables, and how much time we have when all is said and done if we end up playing ten ball.

I have run dozens of events using challonge.com and it is as good as it gets. I prefer it over using a hand written bracket. Can you provide us with an internet connection while we run this tournament? That would help immensely. I can run this from my phone but having it on a laptop makes things a little easier to deal with. Also by using Challonge.com the tournament can be monitored by anyone online as it happens or after the fact!

This will be a lot of fun whether we are playing Texas Bumps or ten ball!

Make that 33!

Holding at 33! Take away a few for plans changing in Vegas and a few for Texas Bumps the add a few for late sign ups and we are in good shape to finish early enough to enjoy the festivities Tuesday night without going to single elimination.

Unfortuantely we cannot do that. The Rio is very proud of their services-lol.
There should be decent wireless available via phone.

If we are all technically sound, our IT guys might be able to hook you up BUT I dont have the heart to ask him right now. Because of the WSOP, we are getting a late start in getting set up.

As Joe mentioned, I am hoping you guys schedule this a different time than the Texas Bumps. They are giving away $5,000 - with a $2,000 winner!

Okie,

I have a 4G hot spot I am bringing with me. I would be more than happy to use it for the tournament.

If anyone would like to play Texas Bumps then let me know and I will remove you from the AZB event.

Will you be withdrawing from our event Mr. Griffin?

Best of luck with Texas Bumps,

Ken

Ken & others;

I am not sure if I will be able to play. I probably will not participate if it is Double Elim because I cannot commit myself to several hours of time. Me and my staff will be super busy. I will be stopping by and saying hello etc.

I would still prefer that this event NOT conflict with one of our exhibitor's and a special promotion they are putting together. (That is another reason to have the AZ event as a shorter and faster event). My goal is to allow people to participate in as many things as they can and want.

Texas Bumps is trying to promote a new game and putting their money where there mouth is ($5,000 prize fund) and I think it would be nice to let the players play in both events and not have to choose (similar to my arguments on the Bonus Ball schedule conflicts).

The BEF fundraiser; 'Challenger of the Stars' starts at 8 PM on Tuesday PM.

There will a LOT of things going on - also a lot of PRO matches.

I am also for the idea of single elimination. This will be my last day in Vegas and I don't wanna spend the night playing a $10 tournament, I think single elim is better, just do a longer race instead of double elim.

Honestly, I would prefer to keep it simple and make no changes to decisions which have been in place for weeks. But if a majority of the players prefer to change something then I will gladly go along.

maybe we could do a Poll? I dont think people want to play a double elimination $10 tournament, maybe we can up the entry to $100 if you wanna keep double elim. lol!

but maybe a poll can settle this....

We have 33 entered. If 17 people say single elimination is the way they want to go then we can go that way. Or if 17 want to play a single elimination event and 16 want to do double elimination then I can run both as easily as I run one.

I am curious though about why you think people don't want to play a double elimination when almost all tournaments are double elimination and there has only been 2-3 people in favor of single elimination so far in this thread (I didn't go back and count but not many).

I don't know about others...and I make no assumption that I know what others think...but I have never gone to any of the special events while at this tournament. I go to play pool. But as your volunteer tournament director I will do anything the majority wants to do. Anyone/everyone can indicate their preference by responding in this thread and I will track it for results. If no majority is established then I will continue with the current set of rules and plans.

Let's get this cleared up and put to bed once and for all

I say single elim because this is a fun meet and greet tournament and entry is only $10. If it was high entry and there was some decent money to be made then I would be all for a double elim. But single makes it go quick and the whole point of this is to meet other azers and play some pool! Just a suggestion.

That's cool but you missed my point.

I was asking why you thought most in this tournament would prefer it when that has not been what has been communicated to me. I thought I might have been overlooking the obvious...again!

I'm just going by my thoughts, I can't explain why others would prefer one way or the other. It's a "fun" tournament.
