Single elimination sounds good to me. It should just be a fun tournament where you get to put some faces to names.

Honestly, I am not missing your point. You are saying it is a social event and not about pool. Gotcha!

I will have fun, laugh, frolic, and be merry whether I go two and out or one and out! lol!

Doesn't matter to me either way. I will either be practicing somewhere or playing in the tournament

And I haven't heard one person say yet that they would prefer double elim over single elim, since mark has offered his input. How many more need to vote to change this tourney to single elim.

Since the rules have been in place for weeks, I think it is only fair that a majority be required to take an action on what has already been discussed and decided. And as stated in my original post calling for people to state their opinions, if a majority is not reached then we will proceed as originally planned. So in short there is no need for anyone to speak up if they prefer double elimination.

We currently have 5 who prefer single elimination. We have 29 others who have not stated a preference.

One of the things discussed early on is that we will try to stay within a 6 hour window so those who wish to attend the evening activities can do so. If at say 12:30 Tuesday the numbers dictate we change our format to fit our window of time then changes will be made to accommodate that window.

This is all I am saying on this subject. I think it has been thoroughly beaten to death.

why not just do a Poll???????sort it all out real quick.
 
Wow. I am suprised you are blocking out 6 hours for this event. I am willing (and can afford) an hour or two - but not 6 hours. I am going to have to withdraw from the event.

I will still support the event but cannot commit that amount of time to it.

I'm also having my doubts. 6 hours is a long time for a $10 tournament.

I vote for single elimination...

I'm not sure many guys wanted this to be a full blown extra tourney. It was meant to be just a way to meet some fellow AZ'rs...

Anyhoo, I will be at the Rio foe 12 days and just hanging out around the pool rooms. I will probably play no matter what. Don't expect my best game, I really want to just have a couple beers and put some faces to the user names on this forum.

Some people I have already met......others I have'nt.

Here's how I am planning on making this work. I know when we are in Vegas that contacting some guy you have no idea how to get a hold of is going to be low on the to do list. So everyone who is on the list and has paid their entry by 12:55 is in. I will remove all non paid entrants and fire this off.

If the numbers are too high to finish within a 6 hour window then I will ask those in attendance what their preference would be. I can only imagine 4 choices - leave it as double elimination, change to single elimination, or split into two double elimination tournaments, or change it to 2 single elimination tournaments. I can make all four of these options happen very quickly.

Mr. Griffin it would be most helpful if you can let us know what section of tables will be available to us. If you are unable to set aside a section for us then I will work out another solution once I arrive on Saturday and communicate it here to the group.

Let's not overanalyze how this is going to go down. It will be fun and easy to attend. We will have fun and someone will kick all our butts and we'll appreciate their excellent play. What more could we ask for in this life! ;)

I am not in it but wish I could be :angry:

BUT

You could switch to a single modified bracket and shave some time and everyone gets a couple matches at least with different Azers.
