Where to play in LA

Is the front table like 2.6 inches?

I just played another Tucker/CSI American Rotation match on a GC IV, the one table we play on with pulled Brunswick Superspeed rail is sick tight. There's no cheating these pockets.

Here's their daily web stream, check it out:

Champions play on this table (not that I am, lol). They don't have to like it.... It's a trip to the dentist. But if you get your mojo, even me, it can be had. For a few racks if you're on.

I live in so cal. This thread is making me want to drive out to HOB for an experiment. I might just drive out there and see which side of the fence is more accurate.

Why didn't Wayne ask me to play?

I don't expect a nit to understand the nuance between gamble and donate.

And all you've exposed is your ass.

Have a nice day.

Lou Figueroa

What a ridiculous attempt to weasel out of your lies. You've been around pool rooms long enough to know that if you want action you go up to the action tables by the rail and not hide out on the back tables with the C and D players. You saw Wayne was up there looking for a game.

I have exposed you as a sad pathetic little blowhard who tries to pump up his self-importance by claiming no one will play him, and when he's called on it, suddenly back peddles on his pretensions, and starts lashing out against those who've exposed him.

Of course, I'm not surprised, as you irrationally lashed out the same way when I exposed your silly delusions that you were some kind of public relations guru in the pool world. What kind of PR man gets mild mannered John Schmidt to want to take him out in the parking lot? What kind of PR man has whole threads on pool forums devoted to what a clown he is? ;)

I'm a c player, and I play up front

Front tables are a hair under 4" or at a true 4, it's more than pocket size that makes it tuff

Why din't Wayne come up and ask me to play? It's not a long walk to the back row.

To be quite honest it seemed like you had a big do not disturb sign. You got the balls and headed back there without approaching anyone. I was pretty sure you were aware of my presence as well as many others but you made no attempt to approach anyone. In my experience that means someone wants to be left alone.

There is something very wrong with this picture. A person supposedly loves to play one pocket. The person goes into a room where almost everyone plays one pocket. The person likes to play cheap like most people in the room. The person can't get a game.

I can see this happening to anyone once or twice. But, the unbelievable part is you have supposedly done this once or twice a year for 10 to 15 years.

I have observed hundreds of non regulars who like to play one pocket enter the room and they ALL have gotten games.

Knocking a room for your own failures seems very non productive.

I can't read your mind (nor can you read mine) but if I guy I knew and played in the US Open walked into my room, I would have at least said, "Hello." But I guess that's part of the thing there -- everyone is shy.

And I don't know where you came up with the number of 10-15 years. More like five since my Mom moved down there. And there are a few of us saying it's tough to get played there:

"When I'm in town I go to Santa Monica Billiards...
Except for the champions, everyone is scared to death to play anyone they don't know or they want so much weight you have no chance. I just spent most of the day at S.M.Billards and no one would play me."
jtompilot

"its hard to get a game in there,"
Fatboy

"I have been three or four times over the last few years. They always want to make a call and send in Richie or Wayne, but *no one* else will play.* I see the same guys every visit and I never get a game."
Lou Figueroa

I've also received similar additional comments privately, so it sounds to me at least, that you guys aren't as "fun" as you think you are.

Are you serious? Why does the reverse question not apply here? Why didn't you go ask Wayne? Is there some "proper" way or etiquette to make a game that only you are aware of?

Kevin, because, as I've said several times in this thread: I don't recall seeing him there. And if he was there -- once -- like maybe four or five years ago, then my recollection is he was playing someone and I didn't want to disturb. I just honestly do not recall seeing him there. We had played in the US Open in Vegas a few years earlier, so I knew what he looked like. I just don't recall seeing him. If I had, I would have at least said, "Hello."

Thanks Lou, I get it, I thought I was losing my mind there for a minute.

One thing I have learned from AZ is that everybody has a different "take" on reality and very few people are ready to acknowledge that their view of reality is just that, a view.

You, based on your personal experience, think the place is unwelcoming. Some guys that hang out there see it differently. Makes perfect sense to me.

Thanks

Absolutely, Kevin. Everyone experiences things and places differently.

I try and tell the truth, as best I recall, and relate my personal experiences. The next guy's experience will be different for sure.

Everybody's truth is personal. Freaking religious wars and guys carrying hate signs come from people trying to stuff their personal beliefs and "truths" down the throats of non-believers.

I always wonder why, if one is secure in their beliefs, is it so darm important to get people to believe like them?

Anyway, I'm sure the place is, at the same time, unwelcoming and cold and warm and inviting.

Oh yeah, Kevin. I have never understood the kind of mentality that drives some people to *insist* that you could not have possibly experienced what you did, purely because because it does not align with their perception of reality.

And yet, we here at AZ, see it all the time.

Guys start "the best cue" threads all the time figuring their will be a clear discussion of "facts" that leads to a definitive answer.

My favorite is where we feel the need to dislike someone personally for not agreeing with us on important life issues like what kind of chalk is "best".

THAT'S a GREAT IMAGE

Talk about unwelcoming. I see what Lou is saying. Wayne should be more friendlier looking. More pushoverish. Less grind-you-to-bitsish.

I'd spot that TAD ferrule a mile away.

Wayne Pullen, the Legend! When he enters a room everyone takes a step back! When he talks everyone listens! When he shoots everyone watches! When he leaves everyone exhales!
