They could sell drugs too, right. According to you, it doesn't matter how you make money as long as you get paid. Some people find gambling to be a vice for degenerates. You seem to think they are afraid of it, when the reality is that they are repulsed by it.

lol.
Noone said sell drugs, we are talking pool. And I stated a fact.
If they prefer to play tourneys and beg for everything forever I guess its ok.

Oh, the savior Bonus Ball will be back in a few weeks. Wait to you see how its been restructured, I'm sure none of them like that idea anymore.

Through sponsorship and larger events. Gambling is the main reason there aren't outside corporations willing to work with our industry. There's a story that I always tell to illustrate this point. A few years ago there was a major tournament held in NYC. The world summit of pool was played at grand central station. After a protracted negotiation, they were finally able to sign major beer company. This was the sponsorship the pool, was waiting for. They had reservations, though. Enough that the second day of the tournament they showed up, unannounced. You know what they found? The tournament director (who I won't name), sitting table side, taking bets on the matches, from other players. Yup. You guessed it. That was the end of their sponsorship.

If players had a different image, one that was more wholesome, it may attract companies like Nike and Rolex, etc. there would be professional tours and large purses. For Christ sake, the number one hot dog vendor in manhattan makes $500,000 per year (yes, it's true). Why doesn't the best pool player?

Might as well get over it. Pool will all ways be seedy. Gambling will never leave.
It is what it is

Gambling is and has been on its way out for the last 20 years.

Gambling at pool is like a dying man on oxygen.

There isn't much life left in gambling at pool.

Although I've enjoyed wagering on my own pool games over my lifetime, I am happy to see it go. I don't think it has done any real good and has little genuine value to the sport.

If professional players continue to depart from the "seedy" portion of pool, we may indeed see corporate sponsors from outside the pool industry which is what we desperately need.

Lol.
When you don't gamble it's for sure on the way out.
You must get out and around to know gambling happening, if it was not for some sort of gambling a lot more players in general would to play this game.
Gambling is alive and well, please. They been shooting it in in the Houston area of late. I know they are gambling as big as anywhere in Georgia right now, John drew just won 200k. And I'm sure they are firing it up at your place over at buffalos in New Orleans to name a few.

Low tier pros and players under that are never giving gambling up, you. You Guys might as well forget that. I don't care if coca cola, Budweiser and Nike all sponsor pool, it just won't happen. Because the elite are still going to get all the tourney money. The others will have to find other ways and they will gamble.

SVB posted on Facebook, he had just landed in London and was lookin for his 10k match with So Shaw.

Bowling has sponsors, good solid companies and they don't make much, I highly doubt pool ever rivals the payouts of bowlers, and there's not to many guys in bowling killin it.

It would be nice, but its just not going to happen, sorry. The players had a chance once upon a time with r.j.reynolds, I doubt they ever get another shot.

BUT:
They will have bonus ball back in 2/3 weeks for sure, beginning of October, although its going to be much different, I suspect the players show up to get their back pay and the new filming and then that will be the end of it. Because what they are going to get now is really peanuts

Back on the map in 2006.

I'm also working on a HUGE project, with Thorsten in the Midwest.

How about you?

A HUGE project with 1 guy. So your saying your putting or trying to put money in a whole ONE players pocket?

I don't think straight pools on the map. Sorry. Maybe in the NYC area, that may be it and minimal I'm sure. I mean I've never seen a sole play it where I live and this is no small city. Nor did I see ANYONE play it when I lived in Florida and played out of the same pool room as a straight pool legend, Mr. Cool Cat himself.

I brought back the world straight pool championships, only certain pockets of areas around the globe played straight pool. Our data shows that since that first event it has exploded in popularity. Because in your corner of whatever city you play in hasn't experienced it, doesn't mean it's not happening. I walked into a few rooms recently in the middle of nowhere in Minnesota. Multiple tables in bothe places had straight pool players. And in every room we went into, everyone knew Thorsten as a straight pool player.

My project isn't about putting money in anyone's pocket. That would be a nice side affect, though. It's a base to affect a grassroots resurgence in American pool. The future of pool is not the 40+ year old players (like myself). It's with the 13 and 14 year old kids that haven't even picked up a cue yet. That's who we have to reach.

You never answered my question? Let me guess, you helped keep your local tavern open a few more years. Eh?

Yes, everyone knows Thorsten as a straight pool player. Your as silly as they come. Can he play straight pool, obviously, he's a great player.

You might as well not waste your time pal. Kids have no interest in pool, unless its a video game for Xbox or an IPhone app.

The biggest things in pool is the APA, BCA, VALLEY. If you want to grow pool go get them to convert to different things, do you think they know Thorsten or Efren? I'd bet 95% do not know who they are. So doing something with a pro is going to do absolutely NOTHING.

I do nothing for pool, just what I'm going to keep doing, it's not appreciated. I was running the biggest tour in Texas, averaging 75/80 players the past 3 years. Put a lot of money in lower level players pockets whom keep the game alive and kicking. It was all amateur, then went to handicapped and let the top players in, well they ruined it, they are a headache, I gave it up. Don't need their whining and bellyaching. I would never cater to them.

Ran a sizable event in March filled up 4 of the 5 events. One pocket, banks, women's, seniors and 9 ball open. Although I did have to Barr 2 of the top pain in the as PROS, why, because they want to be catered to. Not happening.

Had a guy want to have a 50k added event right after that for pros, I told him absolutely never would I do that. They don't appreciate anything and I'm not letting him give them any handouts.

You are part of the problem, then. Not the solution.

Actually... you're the problem. The ONLY thing that has worked in pool is the gambling aspect. Cleaning up the image has done nothing but make pool look corny. If anything, the gambling should be embraced, not hidden. It's really the only hope this game has.

Hes working on something big, leave him alone.
Him, Thorsten, and their bonus ball jerseys will be on display.

Why at every big tourney. And I mean every one. When the finals come around and there's 2 players left, and theres very few spectators watching, question to you is:

WHY IS THIS HAPPENING, WHY?
I want to know just how slick you are, if you are paying attention.

Will only sell on reality tv. It's the number one reason a parent will give in saying they don't want their teenagers (and younger) in a pool room. Without new players, pool will continue to die. And it's the number one reason there are no sponsors in pool.

The only chance pool has of becoming mainstream is corporate sponsorship. That won't happen as long as pool continues the path it's been on for........ever.

In one short answer

Why at every big tourney. And I mean every one. When the finals come around and there's 2 players left, and theres very few spectators watching, question to you is:

WHY IS THIS HAPPENING, WHY?
I want to know just how slick you are, if you are paying attention.

The only ones left in the room are eliminated players, family/friends and local players. Why? Because no one outside that realm knows that there's a tournament. Or would care. With corporate involvement, pool gets exposure. Preferably on TV. Without it, no one will ever know, or care. Like now.

I dont think gambling is the problem so much as the way some people do it. When you have desperate people betting money they may or may not have to try and make a living it leads to bad decisions and pissed off people.

People have been trying to turn pool into golf for thirty years. Hows that working out? It doesnt matter what shirts they wear if the culture of anything goes remains the same.

Bottom line why people dont want anything to do with pool is because its unorganized, short sighted, desperate and so far no one has figured out a way to make any kind of real money with it.
