That is a sun reflector, for close-ups !..I'd drop it like a hot rock !

It's what's known as a "bounce". It's almost identical to the reflective things you put on the dash of your car to keep it cooler in the sun but, it's a little more of a mesh than a solid. One side is reflective, the other is black. We use them to bounce light onto the subject being filmed or by flipping it over we can shade the subject and occasionally the camera if necessary.
That's not a surf board, that's a silvery cloth diffuser for camera. It has flat wire on the side to easily fold it when stuff into bag.
