Not counting some ridiculous position play or intentionally scattering a tight group of balls. I mean this as shooting hard at your ball(s) in an attempt to pocket something by luck, which everybody says is idiotic. I understand that shooting at pocket speed or playing a safety is a way more reliable option. But what to do in those scenarios when your chances of dropping the easiest OB are below 7% and making a successful safety is practically impossible? This can happen often to lower players. Isn't it more logical to try out luck as your last resort instead of simply giving an open table to your opponent on a silver plate without a fight?
