No Filipinos at the Open?

I posted this on the U.S. Open forum and got no responses so I thought I would try it here. It appears to me that none of the Filipino players are participating at the Open next week. Also there are only about 160 players signed up. Did I miss something or looking in the wrong place? Would love to go up and watch Efren and a few of those guys but not the most star-studded field this year.

Pool players are notorious for signing up at the last minute. :p

Of course, once again, Bonus Ball interferes in an already-existing American pool tournament with their sudden announcement of requiring the BB players to be in Vegas. Since BB didn't pay anybody, the players have to pick and choose where to go when it comes to expenses. Thanks to BB, they incurred expenses and never got paid, yet the BB players had to overcome that nut.

I totally understand why it may be difficuilt for some to travel to the week-long U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship.

BB wants the players back in Vegas for next week? That's insane. Where did you read that? Well, if BB wants my little admission fees for a few days he better get somebody signed up fast. Thanks for your response...........

No, BB begins November 2nd, but the expenses for players to travel to Norfolk, Virginia, stay for a week, incurring all the expenses, and then having to go back to Vegas and stay for a week or more, this is expensive. I couldn't afford it if it was me.

The BB players would probably choose BB and Vegas over Norfolk and Open because in order to get paid, they have to be in Vegas to collect monies that should have been paid to them months ago. It's quite sad. :frown:

It was posted that last time the Filipinos were either not paid or paid very late.

They seem to be a little smarter than the US players. Berry pulls this same stuff over and over and they keep coming back.

What did PT Barnum say....;)

haha.

That is what BB & the US open have in common, neither pays...lol

IPT too.

The sad thing about IPT, is some folks quit their jobs and were out quite a bit of money in qualifiers, etc.

I know you arent supposed to wish bad things on people, but these guys like Kevin, and Berry make it tough for me to be good.

Pool players are obviously not rolling in the dough ray me, and for some promotors to take advantage of them is a low down dirty shame.

Grrr.

Well, maybe somebody out here can give me a number to call so I can ask about an updated player list. I would love to know who is playing before I make the ride up the road. Thanks and appreciate your comments and help.

Warren Kiamco is going! He'll probably win it and may even get paid in three to six months! :groucho:

So only Kiamco and Corteza are going? I would have loved to see Dennis and Carlo Biado too.

Good one sir.

Pool players like to gamble. I'm sure there must be a pool going somewhere on who will get paid first, the BB players or the US open top 5...lol

I dont even see how these guys can afford to travelly internationally. 1500 round trip, another 500 lodging/food for the week. Anything less than top 6-8 and you're in the red.

I think the field is already one of the toughest there is. Whats all this fuss about phillipino's coming or not coming...only one of them in the history of the open has ever won it! Sure barry has had his problems but there all paid and what tournament besides the derby hasn't had an issue lately. Right now he's looking alot better than bonus ball but those involved have to try and get what there owe'd. The biggest problem is that the last 5 years the fan's haven't supported the open...just the usual faces every year so there's no ticket gate money. Barry always thinks people are going to come but they don't and its sad. There's gotta be thousands of apa players within a few hours drive of the open but if you mention to them there world class player's right in there own back yard they couldn't give two shits and spend a little money and see real pool. Everybody talks about the open but not many really supported it over the years. More people show up for friday night HS football here than the open. Just my two cents...been going for 15 years straight and see the same fans all the time...no new faces. Go EARL!

If I had one title to engrave upon my pool gravestone, it would be "US Open Champion". Would it have an asterisk next to it?

No.

Would Peter gain me admittance or give me the elevator's down button? Sorry, that was deep.

why do players keep going for this
is it true they don't get paid

Dan, from a very good source, one of the lower finishing Chinese players from last year has not been paid YET! Some of these guys who finished low ($1000-1,500) didn't worry about getting their check and just left the next day. They had a large contingent from Taiwan last year, wonder how many will be back this year. My guess - ZERO!

Maybe they didn't leave Barry a self addresed envelope?

Cuedoctor..........unless I am mistaken, Reyes won it in 1994 and Pagulayan in 2005. I have nothing against any of the players signed up to play this year but I have never seen Efren play in person so that is why I was wanting him to be there. Also I think as of this past Monday only about 150'ish have signed up. Between the four B's....Bonus Ball and Barry Behrman......this open is a little less than it usually is. Still the greatest event in pool.
