_____Another closet finding______

I thought it was gone about 17 years ago. And yet, last weekend while cleaning back side of my closet I found this.
If I remember correctly, it was built in late 70s or early 80s. Both shafts are original but, one shaft was repaired by someone in NYC area.
A true old school monster player - simple, heavy, well balanced cue with explosive hit power.
Looks like it is maple into ebony or rosewood but, looks like ebony, cortland linen wrap, one shaft has ivory ferrule with thin crack in ferrule, another shaft has a short non ivory ferrule.
Shafts are a bit thin for my taste - 12 mm at 3.85 oz and 12.5 mm at 4 oz, that is why I wanted to sell it back then but, somehow did not. Still a mystery to me how it is still in ,my closet after all those years
Butt is in good, i would even say near mint condition. Considering it's age.
SALE PENDING.....DID NOT TAKE LONG AT ALL.

Deep closet!

Great find, must be fun to pull out cues like that after a long time. Like finding a treasure chest.

You have no idea. For the most part it is scary......never know what I will find in there. Even wife is afraid to go too deep in that closet :-)

I volunteer for the next expedition. I have no issues with closet diving for treasures?

I've found cues under my bed before, they never even made it to the closet.
The last time this Joss West was used must of been during the disco era, when red chalk was in>>

I think you are right. It has been a while since cue was used but, I will take out for a spin tonight. Just to compare the way I felt about this cue back then and now, 18 years later.
However, the way it feels in hands I suspect it is still a monster player. I wish shafts were thicker. It would never make it to AZ if shafts were at least 12.7 mm.

Let me rephrase that.

The last time this Joss West was used must of been during the disco era, when red chalk was in, and when it was cool to turn down Joss West shafts

I have dealt with alot of these old JW cues and normal shafts were not todays normal.

13.25 + was common.

I didnt pick up what size the shafts were but if they are 12mm they have had an interesting journey.

My advice is to have (2) new shafts made and keep it. These were the cues the best players used in the day, not the fancy ones.

These are great cues. I have alot of folks make fun of me and these old JW cues, but it pains me to see so many people buy crap when they could have these great old JW cues for practically nothing.

Oh well, checkers sell better than chess.

The shafts are 12 and 12.5 mm at 3.85 and 4 oz. I remember those shafts play great. I am afraid if I order new shafts, they will not play as good. Plus Bill is nowhere to be found now days :-)
And yes, I agree about buying crap. I can not see how guys pay top dollars for crappy chinese Predator cues.
Although, I would not say that JW cues are sold for nothing. Last JW, I had a fancy one, sold for $3800. I did some research and see almost all JW cues sell for over a grand at the lowest. And this one is not the lowest level of JW.
I am not in a rush to sell. Just put it out here to see what I can get for it. Who knows...Every cue has it's buyer. just need to find one.

I have another cue maker make shafts for these old cues.

I wish you the best rolls,

Ken

WOW! I got about 20 PMs in 2 days about this cue. Nice.
Thank you everybody for your interest and suggestions. It helped me a lot to determine what to ask for this cue.
So, I am thinking $1000 cash would be a bargain.
Would look into partial trade but, value on trade will be slightly higher.

SALE PENDING....WOW! Did I set price too low? Got 3 offers within 3 minutes of posting price.
Oh well, it is gone now.

If it were rosewood, had a white/green wrap, and a micarta ferrule, I'd have offered much more. I've been looking for one for a long time.

This one is only missing the rosewood and Micarta. I could add micarta ferrules. The rosewood however would be a problem :D
And there is another major issue - cue is sold
But thanks for the comment. I will keep my eye open for you. You never know what else is in that closet...Sh1t, even I do not know what is in there.
