Saturday: Semifinals of 2013 U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship

He plays too fast. It's his youth, I think. Way, way too fast.

Jayson in the corner, moaning, talking to himself. He can't believe it.

He got even faster in these last two games, like he was trying to outrun the pressure.

Van-Van breaking. Comes up empty.

Chance at the 1 for Jayson. Makse the 1. Now he's straight in on the 2. Draws his rock back for the 3. He has to roll it down the side rail in the corner. He makes it. He has an angle on the 4. He reaches for the mechanical bridge. He could have gotten a little better on the 5. I don't know about this shot.

MISSES!:yikes:

The crowd groans.

Lee has a free shot now to tie the score. He's going to take advantage of this, and he's going to stick to Jayson. This is the same thing he did to Niels. Came back fromt the dead.

Van-Van runs out. 10-10.

Jayson needs to really rethink his game strategy. I guess when you're in the heat of the moment, it's tough to remember to slow down.

Lee makes a ball in the side on the break. The balls are in an odd formation, though. There will be no quick finishes to this rack.

Isn't that only for the final match for first and second place?

Must win by 2. If they get to 13, though, then that's it. Stupid rule, I think. :embarrassed2:

Van-Van shoots the 2 in the corner pocket, but can he get position on the 3? Yes, he did. It's still a hard run-out. Makes the 3, and he can see the 4, which is laying on the middle of the end rail. Speed on this shot has to be pretty good to make it, though. There's a hush in the crowd. What a great hit that was. The crowd responds with applause. This is a knowledeable crowd and only claps when it is indeed a hard shot.

The 5 ball goes in. He's now shooting the 6 at the end rail, but not much angle. He uses follow and got real good on the 8 in the corner pocket. 9 in the corner.

Lee back in the lead, 11 to 10.

Jayson looks like he's going to get sick right now, staring out into space.

Lee can win the match with this game and Jayson can't. A little while ago, it was the opposite.

Lee Vann Corteza breaks the balls and it looked like nothing went in, and suddenly, a ball drops. The crowd erupts in laugher. Lee is happy. The 1-ball looks tough, and Lee makes an incredible thin cut shot in the side.

Easy shot on the 2 in the side now. Balls are in a cluster at the other end of the table. He has his work cut out for him.

Shane Van Boening, 2,700
Jayson Shaw, 1,900
Chris Melling, 600
Oscar Dominguez, 500
Corey Deuel, 400
Van-Van, 600
Keith Bennett, 200
Darren Appleton, 700
Imran Majid, 200
Karl Boyes, 300
Tommy Kennedy, 200
The Greek, 250
Jeremy Sossei, 300
Niels Feijen, 400
Mike Dechaine, 200
Johnny Archer, 500

I think Van-Van was the best bargain of the bunch.

That PoolBum's a freaking genius!

Lee Vann running out. Makes the 5. He's not going to fail here.

Jayson again staring into space, can't believe it.

6 goes in. He looks good for the 7 in the corner. Beautiful shot. 2 more balls to go. 8 goes in the corner.

Jayson puts his stick in the case, knowing he's now doomed.

Lee pockets the 9 in the corner for the win. Match over. 12-10.

It will be Shane v. Lee in the finals at 7:30 p.m.

Short iInterview at the end with Jim Wych.

Lee Vannn said he just wanted to stay focused on the game, saying to himself, "Give me a chance, give me a chance." Lee says he always tries his best in each tournament for the finals. Very humble guy. I like him.
