Saturday: Semifinals of 2013 U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship

Earl set the standard, Archer came up and won a number of big events, now it is Shane who is clearly the next great US player.

HOF is becoming more and more of a lock for SVB. Weaker field or not, this is still a big win and SVB continues to show his top class of play.

Shane's a lock for the HOF, no question about it.

Lee Van seems like a really great guy. I hope he wins the U.S. Open in the future.

Both Shane & Lee Van deserve this title - with the performance they have shown in the entire tournament, and the fact that Shane was last year's winner and Lee Van winning two international titles this year.
It is good that the title "US Open" stays in American soil with this back-to-back win. Also I'm almost certain that upon getting 2nd place in the US Open, Lee Van is now the number 1 player in the world based on WPA rankings.

Allen Hopkins, David Howard, Nick Varner, Buddy Hall, Mika Immonen and Darren Appleton have all won twice, but now Shane is the closest to at least tying Earls record 5 wins.

Does anyone know how many points Shane accumulates from winning the US Open, I'm relation to the WPA rankings.

...and NOBODY has ever three-peated! Here's to Shane doing it again, next year!

Sorry! :-) I was thinking of two posts and responded to this one when I meant to put that Mike Sigel won it in 1976,1980, and 1983 on the other .

Response to this quote should be.
Earl won 1984,1987,1993,1997,2000 and I would love to be around when Shane breaks that record. If anyone that is playing today can do it, it is Shane. I have the upmost respect for him as a player and a person! Hats off to him for being such a great athlete that others can look up too!

No problem! Congrats on adding Jayson Shaw's sponsorship. Just FYI, you could do worse than adding another champion to your stable of sponsored players...SVB of course! :D

Thank you to all for your very kind words. I had fun! :D

Poor Shane now is getting bombarded with autograph seekers.

Interesting factoid about Shane. From what I could tell, he appears to be the only player besides Efren to win $90k+ for 6 straight years.

I'd be curious to see if any other player has done that.

Trust me I would love to work with Shane! He is such an amazing person. However If we added another champion, we would have to cut the sponsorships of more than half of the lower level players. I am quite happy with the 55 players that make up the team. I hope to expand on the team each year.

WOW! I had no idea you sponsored so many players. Excellent! Keep up the good work, and best wishes for a successful future for all your "stars"! Let me know if you're ever up for sponsoring a professional instructor! :D J/K...but not really!

Yes we sponsor player's of all age and skill levels; not just the professionals.

Can you send Mark an email at mcantrill@str8-shots.com with your rates, availability, and where you are located. We are working with numerous people of all skill levels and some of them have requested sponsorship for training. We may not be able to sponsor you this year but we can definitely try to throw some business your way.
