What a show these top women are putting on at the Queens Cup. They should all take a bow when it's over. They are relaxed, having fun, but still very professional, and most are hitting their top gear. The MC men should take a GOOD look at how it's done and how to give the fans a great show. Johnnyt

Can't speak for anyone else, but I'm loving this format.

I am too! I am at the event and the players are having fun, the spectators watching at the venue are loving it and the TV people say it looks great on TV. I think this event will be a hit with all involved.

Yes I really enjoyed this tourney. Both teams were having fun with each other, great camaraderie, positive vibes and enjoying themselves (maybe more so Team Asia on Day 2 since they were so far ahead). Probably helped that most of them know each other and are friends or are friendly with each other. Also probably this is first edition and their is no history of rivalry or revenge yet.
I also like the interesting innovative format on final day tomorrow. Where they have the losing team captain choose their best doubles and also choose the weakest doubles team from the opposing team. Presumably this will come into effect to obstruct the team that is on the hill already won 9 matches. So now with Team Asia at 8-2 if they win 1 more match tomorrow it will be 9-2 and Kelly Fisher will presumably choose both doubles teams
I would have preferred that the race is slightly longer race to 5 (like MC) instead of race to 4. Also can the insidepool streamer show the score of each match (and overall team score) on the screen all the time please.
:D

Now all Matchroom has to do is start their Women's MC, they already have the format using the men's. Just change MC to Men's MC and have the Women's MC. Johnnyt

Anyone knows the prizemoney for winners and losers? Wasn't mentioned anywhere so presumably the organisers could be treating it like exhibition and all 8 players get equal appearance money:wink:

Dragon hasn't reported the purse or payouts to AZB yet which probably means it's on the low side. No matter what it is a great tournament. Johnnyt

I am lucky enough to have Filipino TV in the United States and was able to record both the World Championship 10 Ball and the Queen's Cup this year. I too enjoyed both tournaments, with the Queen's Cup being a real treat to watch. The ladies wanted to win, but they didn't let that stop them from having fun and entertaining the crowd. Even the usually intense Ga Young Kim and Jasmin Ouschan managed to smile and and relax a bit in this format.

The ladies were all playing with live microphones, and it gave everyone an idea of how quick they see things on the table and the logic that dictates their game decisions. It also gave us a more personal impression of the players as regular human beings. Ga Young, to my complete surprise, speaks fluent Mandarin, Korean, and English and was swapping languages effortlessly to communicate with her Chinese and Filipina teammates. She also displayed humor and patience throughout the match and left me realizing that there is much more to this young woman that I had ever realized. What a winner on all fronts.

Vivian Villarreal was also a hoot to watch with the live microphones. Her usual flamboyant playing style was such a huge contrast to the reserved style the Asians are used to seeing, and I still wonder if they actually "Got" her, or if they just think she is a crazy woman from the West (smile). She whistled and talked as usual, and even slipped up and mouthed a couple of bad words on the broadcast. She didn't have her "A" game of old this year, but she is always fun to watch.

Thanks to Dragon Promotions and all the sponsors that allowed the Asian Station to broadcast so many hours of pool (4-5 days of four hour coverage was provided). And thanks to Jay Helfert for outstanding commentary along with the Filipino commentators that I just cannot spell right now. Jay too was a hoot, as he translated Chinese for the audience even though he doesn't speak a word of the language (he just made educated guesses). The man truly knows pool as well as anyone on the planet.

I wish we could have events like this for the ladies here in the USA. The Filipino's have made an excellent advance in management by having these tournaments at shopping malls on the weekend. It exposes pool to people that have never seen it before and allows even the youngest of fans to watch. this means there is a real chance at expanding our billiard fan base, and we need that.

Again, fantastic event, and I look forward to next year and maybe US TV coverage of the event??

10-4 Asia. Johnnyt

Thought it would be about that. If it was ONLY Euro women not any from US, it probably would have been closer but I'm guessing they'd lose 10-6 or 7 anyway. Asia women play strong.

Hope the matches were recorded, they all started way too late for that.

If it was only Euro women, Jasmin would have been excluded as well.

Honestly,if Matchroom did a women's Mosconi cup,who would they get to play for the U.S. that would be highy competitive anymore? Also, they would seem like Johnny-come-latelys, even if the MC was around for 20 yrs before the Queens Cup.

Also,People kept talking on here and in the chat about Vivien being the weak link, and maybe she was compared to the others, but she made some really hard shots throughout the event. She also wasn't the only member of Team West to get shutout in singles play.

Great format, great event and a real winner on TV! Kudos to Dragon et al for putting this one together.

This sounds like a really great idea for all. The sponsors and advertisers should really see the benefit and in turn benefit the players and sport as a whole.

Excellent event, but Team West could have been and should have been stronger.

WPBA Rank: Jeanette Lee (3), Monica Webb (4), Jennifer Barretta (8), Vivian Villareal (13)

Even if one looks at WPA Rank instead, Barretta is #31, the highest rank of any American.

Team West would have been stronger had Lee, Webb or Barretta been the representative from the USA. Vivian is a great player, but did not merit this selection.

Of course, for all I know, the others were offered that place on Team West first. I sure hope so.

I believe Lee is hooked up with Dragon in some way, as she has done several events with them. Maybe she declined for some reason. I don't know if Monica is still playing enough, although she did pretty good in a China (I believe) tournament not too long ago. I like Jen's game, but wonder about her with 30 sec. shot clock. Monica is still a fantastic player.
