Right now i have a older dale perry with a ob classic shaft. I like it but im wanting something else. I was wanting some opinions on some cues everyone has shot with. I was gonna buy a meucci casino from tecknow but after reading alot of reviews on meuccis they seem to warp after time and im leaning away from buying it. There is a mezz at my local billiard shop i was wanting input on how you guys like mezz or any other cue. Im not rich but custom cues are nice lol.

There is a great entry level custom cue that I highly recommend.

Cueaddicts has a Gilbert cue for about the same price as a Meucci and is 100X better cue.

Do a search and you will be very happy IMO.

Hard to beat Gilberts or Rick Howard cues for the money.

Best of rolls,

Ken

That question gets asked here a lot. You will get a thousand different answers. Its like asking 'what kind of car should I drive?' The answer is no one knows but you. It's all a matter of personal taste. Ask around locally, see if other players will let you test drive their cues, most will if you are respectful in my experience.

As far as customs go you can get a custom around here starting at $300.00 so its not out of your reach.

Only 100X better? You may be giving Meucci too much credit. And before i get flamed i had a Meucci and it fell apart.
I know nothing of Mezz cues but you seldom see a negative review of them.
Some people say they are the best of the production cues.

I like the DPs but if I was going to buy anything now it would be a Carolina or Jacoby from our fellow AZers in the fs/wanted section. I got the best prices from Acuraheel on the Carolina and I'd have to look to see who it was on the Jacoby

As far as production customs go the Mezz is a great cue and I wouldn't over look Schon or jacoby either...both are great hitting cues as well. If you have the option to hit a few balls with the Mezz (and hopefully others) at the local shop go for it and see what you think. I think that once you get into that level of cue the quality is there in all of them so its all about what your personal preference's are...I have never owned a Mezz (I bought a Schon instead) but it was a coin toss on witch one I liked more when shooting with them side by side...the deciding factor was that they cut me a great deal on the Schon because it had a small chip in the finish....

I agree with these other suggestions....

Nice group of guys trying to help.

I let anyone hit with any of my cues. Another recommendation is find a guy playing a cue you might like and hit some with it.

Seems like anyone that hits some with the Gus I play with seems to like it...

Thanks alot the information was helpful. The price tag on the mezz was 700. He said 350 plus my dale perry with both shafts for the mezz. I played with the mezz for about 20 mins before going home. Hopefully it will be there tuesday.

A question I have asked myself, i see and hear a pretty good deal of praise about Gilbert cues.. Scotty Townsend, if I remember correctly,is cousins with Andy Gilbert, yet, he does not shoot with a Gilbert. So I can not help but wonder why? Hit, Feel????

Are you going to put another low deflection shaft on it? If you are, concentrate on the shaft you want, and then get something to hold the shaft. Why buy a cue known for a good hit if you are going to change it, like you did with the Dale Perry? It has never made much sense to me.

A little off topic but I kind of regret switching cues. Played really good with a no name butt and a 314 shaft and then switched to a P2. Switched because a lot of people said they play great, but to be honest I never did like the way the P2 felt. Now switched to a Lambros and the jury is still out. In summary, switch if you like but be prepared for an adjustment period that just may not work out. And regardless of what the majority says, it can be the total opposite for you.

I have had several cues custom and production and always came back to my humble Chinese made Lucasi.

For production cues Mezz is at the very sharp end. If you can wait 5-6 months
get a Keith Josey.. You don't see many used ones for sale for a reason!

If you can afford it, get the new Mezz with the 12 mm LD shaft. The hit and feel are fantastic. Gilbert, Howard and Josey all make superb customs. Im partial to Mike Durbin and Blackcreek (Travis). My regular playing cue is a Durbin, i have a PJ Durbin as my backup, ebony on ebony with Mike's version of an LD shaft. Id consider selling the Backup Durbin for $550 which is what i paid for it.

9 out of 10 players can't tell the difference between a custom and production cue. The same 9 out of 10 players won't know if you tell them the cue maker if it's custom or production. I have seen cheaper cues that look way nicer than more expensive cues. When a player has to let you hold their cue so your eyes are 6 inches away so you can really see the detail. I don't see the point. Get what you like and don't worry about who made it. Especially if your replacing the shaft. Don't get me wrong. There are some really nice customs out there and I usually lean towards custom. That's my preference and I like what I have. Favorite cue right now. I have no idea who made it. Probably a cheap import but it is custom and I love it.
