Just curious, what is the normal cost to get a table recovered?
What all do you do when you go recover someone's table?
Getting my first table recovered and just curious what is kind of standard?
Well, I for one, refuse to just "recover a table". It does the customer no good to stretch felt over a unleveled table.
I'm in Iowa. There aren't a whole lot of mechanics in my area that I'm finding. It's a 7' being cover with 860hr that I have already.
Where in Iowa, there is a pretty good Mechanic out of the Quad Cities.
I saw that in the sticky. I'm in the waterloo/cedar falls area which is about 2 1/2 hours northwest of the quad cities so he's probably a little far away.
I've got a guy that said he'll do it. He recovers most of the bars in town (probably about 30). Just an old retired guy that does it on the side, but he's real good from what I've seen. Just have no idea if he's a mechanic or just covers tables. He is gonna do it for $100 which I'm assuming is pretty cheap.
My biggest concern is that everyone in my area uses mercury ultra and I'm putting on 860hr.
I'm assuming he'll have no problem but I have no idea. Plus like I said I want the thing leveled and all and don't know what service to expect for what money.

pm dontlitethat He's in the quads.
Several years ago I heard $65/hr. Not sure if that's a rate to depend on and the info wasn't from dontlitethat. Have no idea what he needs.
If you're serious about your table then a Professional should do the work. If you're not then anybody can pull a cloth tight. Grab and pull like heck. Then 6 months later pull the staples and pull like heck again cause you didn't pull it right the first time.
Kind of surprises me there's no one around here, pools actually pretty big in my area. Damn state tournament has been played here for as long as I can remember.
No disrespect but I've only found 1 pool hall in the area, The Break Room. The rest of the tables are in taverns. There was one Downtown Waterloo but didn't have much appeal.
Where else? I'm there 2 or 3 times a month.
None taken, and your correct about the lack of halls. I cant pinpoint why the pool halls havent lasted around here. Poor management would be my guess, but thats all it is, a guess. I have nothing to compare it to as far as popularity in other areas. But, I managed a bar for a number of years, so I was in the atmosphere quite a bit. Just from my experience, and maybe im bias because I spent a large amount of time in that setting, it seemed to me there was a fair amount of players, and decent players at that in the area.
I feel there are some quality players around. I know many that travel a good amount for tournaments. Also, like I said, the valley state pool tournament is held downtown every year.
I could be wrong, and maybe compared to other places the pool interest is low around here. Just saying from my perspective, for as much pool as I see played in the area, it surprises me the lack of places we have to purchase equipment as well as the lack of mechanics in the area. I know Cedar Rapids which is about 45 miles away has more action as well as the Des Moines and the Quad Cities which are both 2 hours + away. For a metro of 100,000+ people you would think we would have more.
Thats kind of why I was asking the questions I was, Im having trouble finding anything. I appreciate everyones knowledge and input.
The problem you're having, is finding someone that knows what they're doing. Otherwise, there's plenty of guys around that will install cloth and set tables up....happens everywhere all the time.

PM jjacobson John and brother Bob are in Marshalltown and been working on and restoring tables for a long time. Bob's pretty busy with his new tavern but who knows, he may want a break.
Sorry I couldn't help you at this time, if you can't find a single worthy soul to do the work we might be able to work something out.
