Just curious, what is the normal cost to get a table recovered?

What all do you do when you go recover someone's table?

Getting my first table recovered and just curious what is kind of standard?

If you were talking about the price of a big Mac, it's the same from coast to coast, but when it comes to working on pool tables, that changes from area to area and from mechanic to mechanic....but so does the quality of work as well:smile: so there is no standard.

Maybe before you ask for a price you should metion the tables size you want covered Plus what cloth you want.

The guy who does our every year, or prn uses Champion Cloth-Tour Edition, and charges about 450-600 BUCK Per Table for a 4.5 x 9.0

I'm in Iowa. There aren't a whole lot of mechanics in my area that I'm finding. It's a 7' being cover with 860hr that I have already.

I know it's a pretty general question and wasn't necessarily asking for a specific price or anything. Like I said before just curious. I've never had the table professionally leveled or anything since I got it. Just did it all myself.

Now that I got my cloth, I'm going to get a hold of him to come hook me up. Money's tight though so it might be a few weeks.

In the mean time I was just curious to what you all do for your customers when you go change cloth. Didn't know if it was typical to relevel, etc when you do. Might be dumb questions but I'm a noob with being a table owner. Tried searching for similar questions but the search doesn't seem to work for me. I must not be doing something right.
Thanks

Well, I for one, refuse to just "recover a table". It does the customer no good to stretch felt over a unleveled table.

I saw that in the sticky. I'm in the waterloo/cedar falls area which is about 2 1/2 hours northwest of the quad cities so he's probably a little far away.

I've got a guy that said he'll do it. He recovers most of the bars in town (probably about 30). Just an old retired guy that does it on the side, but he's real good from what I've seen. Just have no idea if he's a mechanic or just covers tables. He is gonna do it for $100 which I'm assuming is pretty cheap.

My biggest concern is that everyone in my area uses mercury ultra and I'm putting on 860hr.

I'm assuming he'll have no problem but I have no idea. Plus like I said I want the thing leveled and all and don't know what service to expect for what money.

I doubt the $100 covers a re-level. You may also want to make sure he has installed Simonis as there is a pattern that should be followed to properly stretch and install it. I believe there is a video on You Tube. You may want to contact the guy out of Quad Cities. Most mechanics are willing to travel.

pm dontlitethat He's in the quads.

Several years ago I heard $65/hr. Not sure if that's a rate to depend on and the info wasn't from dontlitethat. Have no idea what he needs.

If you're serious about your table then a Professional should do the work. If you're not then anybody can pull a cloth tight. Grab and pull like heck. Then 6 months later pull the staples and pull like heck again cause you didn't pull it right the first time.

Lol, yeah, well I hope the guy I was planning on having do it can do better than that. Looks like I'm probably going to find out. I pmd him and it doesn't sound too promising that he can make it to my area. Not having any luck finding any other actual mechanics.

Kind of surprises me there's no one around here, pools actually pretty big in my area. Damn state tournament has been played here for as long as I can remember.

I'll keep searching bit if no luck I'll let you know how it goes with the original installer.

No disrespect but I've only found 1 pool hall in the area, The Break Room. The rest of the tables are in taverns. There was one Downtown Waterloo but didn't have much appeal.

Where else? I'm there 2 or 3 times a month.

None taken, and your correct about the lack of halls. I cant pinpoint why the pool halls havent lasted around here. Poor management would be my guess, but thats all it is, a guess. I have nothing to compare it to as far as popularity in other areas. But, I managed a bar for a number of years, so I was in the atmosphere quite a bit. Just from my experience, and maybe im bias because I spent a large amount of time in that setting, it seemed to me there was a fair amount of players, and decent players at that in the area.

I feel there are some quality players around. I know many that travel a good amount for tournaments. Also, like I said, the valley state pool tournament is held downtown every year.

I could be wrong, and maybe compared to other places the pool interest is low around here. Just saying from my perspective, for as much pool as I see played in the area, it surprises me the lack of places we have to purchase equipment as well as the lack of mechanics in the area. I know Cedar Rapids which is about 45 miles away has more action as well as the Des Moines and the Quad Cities which are both 2 hours + away. For a metro of 100,000+ people you would think we would have more.

Thats kind of why I was asking the questions I was, Im having trouble finding anything. I appreciate everyones knowledge and input.

Be very, very wary of a mechanic that doesnt have much experience with installing simonis.

The problem you're having, is finding someone that knows what they're doing. Otherwise, there's plenty of guys around that will install cloth and set tables up....happens everywhere all the time.

PM jjacobson John and brother Bob are in Marshalltown and been working on and restoring tables for a long time. Bob's pretty busy with his new tavern but who knows, he may want a break.

Sorry I couldn't help you at this time, if you can't find a single worthy soul to do the work we might be able to work something out.

Thanks Rob, I understand. Thats quite a drive just for that little job. I dont blame ya. Figured if you happened to be in the area often it might work, but dont sweat it. I have a guy I trust to do the cloth, just dont know how much of a "mechanic" he is with a few of the other things I want looked at, expecially since its never been touched by a professional since its been in my house.
