i went to napa league sat and when i opened my case my playing cue was missing !!

my 1st thought was one pf my girlfriends sons took it out at the house and played with it and did not put it back. when she called them and they said they did not take it out i went into panic mode. i realized i must have left it here at the pool hall wed night.

this particular cue is a plain sneaky so i surmised if i left it someone may have put it up on one of the wall racks

i check the rack nearest me , nope not there. check the next rack, not there either. not at the 3 rd rack either. head to the 4 th rack and i think i see my stick propped against the counter in front of that rack while i am about 10 foot away.

i walk straight up to it and pick it up and and say yep this is it. a guy who happened to be leaning against the counter about 6 or 7 feet away says this other guy is playing with that stick. i look at him and say who ? about that same moment my stick is jerked out of my hands and i spin around and see a guy glaring at me.

he says i am playing with that stick ! he happened to have a 2 piece in his other hand so i surmised he was using mine to break with as it was leaning against the counter while he was at the table playing with the other cue.

i told him that this particular cue was mine and that i had left it here at the pool hall wed night. he leans his personal cue against the counter and holds my stick in both hands and i am thinking , wtf ?

i say it is not a house cue. he says yea it is. i say look at the shaft, its silky smooth. look at the joint in the middle. he says what joint ?
he twists it and it moves and i say see , its not a house cue.

he just stand there looking at it not saying anything. i pull it out of his hands and he just stands there not saying anything. i wait for an apology for jerking it out of my hands and he still has not said any thing so i just turn around and walk away.

maybe i was in the wrong for just walking up and picking it up but i honestly did not think any one was playing with it as it was just leaning up against the counter. i have seen on occasion people not put cues back up on the wall after playing.

i was just taken aback about how confrontational he was and he never apologized . i have encountered assholes like that in a bar, actually i am surprised if i go in a bar and dont encounter at least one person who acted confrontational like he did. my 1st time expereincing this type of behavior in a pool hall.

I think your lucky to get your cue back. I played a tourny a few years back at a hall I had played quite a few times I made the finals and set my cues on the table and went to the washroom I came out and my cues weren't on the table any more, I paniced untill I seen them on the wall rack the waitress picked them up, and I play with a Predator 5k4 and Predator break cue far from house cues!! Its a bad feeling when you think your cue is gone you got lucky no one took it home.

The other guy was probably over reacting a bit, considering to him it was just a house cue like any other that didn't belong to him anyway. He probably realized that after things set in a little.
But the important thing is that you got your cue back. Lucky guy.
I did almost the same thing with my one of a kind Tim Scruggs cue about 10 years ago in Denver, CO. and have not seen it since. Still makes me sick thinking about it today.
So again, at least you got your cue back and no harm done.

A similar thing happened to one of my teammates. When the owner said to the player using it, "It's my cue, I paid for it, and it belongs to me," the player said, "No, it's my cue, I'm playing with it."

The real owner had to physically take it out of the player's hands and the player still *****ed about it, claiming it was his cue. He tried to take it back to play with it and the owner said, "NO!"

So then the guy took it anyway and tried to play with it!

We all finally figured out that the player didn't know a cue could be owned by an individual and he thought every cue in the joint was his to use.

I think the player finally figured out that he couldn't just pick up anyone's cue in the house and use it. Maybe more alcohol would've helped?

Maybe if someone grabbed my personal property, like my Q-claw or something.

He's just borrowing it and there are a million others usually.

I'd say "excuse me, I was using that". Or even just grab another.
He was being a jackass.

One of the local pros who wins a lot of the tour stops had his cue end up in the racks too.
Didn't even remember it until the next day.

Unfortunately it doesnt matter what you play with if you have non tourney or league players there, they will pick up anything. I was playing in a tourney and put my cue (Adams/Balabushka GB9) on a table while I went to check the board and a girl picked it up and took it to the other side of the room to play with it. Thank goodness one of my buddies who recognized it stopped her before she got out of eyesight. Obviously not a house cue but she had no clue.

Once upon a time, I laid my $1400 Schon down on my table, turned to pick up my beer and then watched as a guy in a group on the next table (that had just arrived) picked up my cue to break with it. I took a deep breath and calmly explained the facts of life to him. Some people honestly don't have a clue about cues. To them, it's a piece of wood with a tip; they imagine all cues in the joint are house cues, who owns a cue of their own?

More recently (in Europe) a guy grabbed my B/J cue and started playing with it...he argued with me about it (in Greek) until I could demonstrate that it wasn't a typical house cue. He was ticked off I took it back, even after he saw it was mine. To be fair to him, it looks exactly like a house cue. To be fair to me, he was still a Malaka (j-off).

yea i was real happy to find it lol.

i can understand some people not knowing what a sneaky is and mistake it for a house cue, albeit it was the nicest looking cue on the wall. its only 5 months old and still looks brand new. i keep my cues and shafts clean.

my line of thinking is exactly the same as yours.

i was really suprised by his actions. he came up behind me , reached around and jerked it outa my hands and started literally snarling at me. i thought wtf? if i had been in his shoes i would have simply said ...excuse me i am playing with that cue.

hustling ? me ? lol . no i dont hustle although i was called one several times in my younger days when i bar hopped lol.

this cue i bought on a spur of the moment. i was not even looking for a new cue when i bought it. a friend had bought about a dozen cues at the southern classic this year and i just bought this one for the hell of it.

it turns out i play better with this cue than any i own even though it is the cheapest one i have.

i have several mc dermots , 1 with a g core shaft. a couple of vikings, a predator 1st gen blak 4 and a 3,000.00 custom that was my daily player until i bought this sneaky.

this guy is not a league player or even a regular patron at this pool hall. i asked the room owner if he knew the guy and he said no.

i assume he does play a little pool though because he had his own cue and was playing on the 9 footers. it seems to me most new players choose the bar tables when they come in snd more serious players choose the 9 footers but of course i may be wrong.

On Friday nights at a place here in town, a large group of friends (sometimes 10-12 of us) play at a place whose atmosphere gets club like on weekends. We generally rent two or three tables depending on who comes. To avoid thievery we keep all our cues together. One particular night we had three five-q-claws holding our cues. A guy looking for a couple of house cues stopped and looked at our cues, and in one motion picked up all fifteen cues in both hands and starts to walk away. "Hey guys, there has to be at least one good one here." That idiot nearly started a riot. Eight cornered the guy and tired to convince him that he was literally holding 10k in his hands. Then the guy told us to f*** off or he'd kick our asses one by one, an offer we were ready to accept. The general manager (also a pool player) came over and explained it, returned our cues to us, and threw the guy out.

Yes this happens, no I'm not surprised how the guy reacted. Be very glad you were able to get your cue back.

Stories like these and it makes you wonder how some people get thru a day without being hurt.

Old pool hall, we had booths. A couple of times I had a cue taken from the booth.

Ok, even if yer an absolute idiot and can't tell the difference between a 2 piece cue and a ragged house cue, why would you reach in a take a cue that was obviously being used.

Twice, I would break a rack, turn around and my cue would be missing, all in about 30 seconds.

We have had our cues in Q Claws during league and always funny when someone comes over and starts eye balling the cues to see which one they would like to play with.

Do you go to a golf course and just start helping yourself to random clubs from other peoples bags.

Gotta be reincarnation cause some people can't be that stupid in just one life time.
