Best made Sneaky

''Best playing'' is subjective and personal. With that said, IMO, Ned Morris builds the best hitting sneaky I've ever played with.

Sure seems everyone here wants to hawk a custom SP. I have one, blah.

Or you can go to the top of the screen, click on marketplace, click on cues, click on Schon SP. Then take a real good look at the BW 2.

Hey, why not support the people that make this site possible.

They are kinda pricey for a sneaky...

To be honest, it's hard to build a bad sneaky.
The builder starts with a blank that most likely some else built.
Taper-turn it, put a pin in it and put a shaft on it.
What's the problem?

real old school sneaky

the term sneaky pete was coined when players wanted to take a good playing pool cue into a bar/pool hall but try to fool everyone into thinking they were playing off the rack. they were also know as ' hustlers '
sneaky pete's do not have joint rings, inlays, wraps veneered points

the photos are of what old school players call sneaky pete, it was made from an old brunswick house cue, uneven points, scars in the finish, beer stains in the wood, old style bumper, no joint rings

None of my custom sneakies are for sale, but I will post my opinion

My PFD made with a Mark Bear plays about the best in my meagre collection.

The Gracio I just got plays about the same, an extremely fine cue.

I have a Schmelke with a "pro-taper" that plays nicely, I take it out quite often. My Schmelke with a standar-taper is a bit stiff and makes a lovely break cue. The Schmelke with the "extended pro-taper" plays a bit soft for my taste.

My Prather plays rather stiff as well, but lots of guys who play in my basement like the cue very much. They make a fine cue for the money IMO.

I have a Josey on order and the play and look good. I would be getting a Scruggs if I were you. In fact I plan to get one after the first of the year.

And there it is, the reason these threads ar useless.

Op already had his brand choices down, basically. Plus, everybody has their own opinions.

I had a woodworth that was the worst cue I have ever owned. Ccjohn says they are best.

I guess i was misunderstood. I didn't say i thought Woodworth sneakies were the best. I just said i currently had one that played real good. The reason it plays good is it has an excellent SHAFT. It has a aged birdseye shaft that he obviously custom made and matched with a cheapo blank for somebody. I bought it slightly used off the sale rack at my local room and i knew when i hit the first 2 balls with it it felt good to me. Let me elaborate on my views whats the best sneaky....
In my time i've owned and and used as my personal players these sneakies in this order starting in the 70's. 1 Meucci pre dot, 1 Meucci with the dots when they first came out. 2 Kikels, 2 Scruggs, 1 scruggs fancy, 1 Judd fancy, 1 Diviney, 1 Players butterfly, and the Woodworth sneaky i use now. So i know a little about them.

Some i would modify the shafts and Ferrules like the Meuccis. We used to cut down the ferrules to 1" and thin the handles up a bit. Back then that was a custom...lol The 60.00 Players i turned down the shaft myself to make it a good player. I still have it and when i loan it to somebody they are really amazed how well it plays. But the key is the shaft, pick one out with a good shaft.
If you are strictly looking for a good playing cue #1 is to find one that you can pick up and it feels good hitting balls to you. Its hard to do that ordering online. Look for something thats also inexpensive if you travel to play leagues a lot so you can bang it around. Also look for one with really good tight grain shaft wood with a taper that feels good for you. If you are looking for an investment buy a cue with a good name on it. But remember the investment cues you have to be careful using and the only real difference is in the name. The shafts will all vary even within the same maker. I sold almost every one of the cues above for more money than i paid for them. Some a lot more money. Some i still have.

Some people here mention Tim Scruggs. I have heard that there is a little "affinity" between Scruggs' Sneakys and Bob Frey (?)

I play with one that snipershot here on the forum made for me. Plays as well as any cue I've owned, and I've owned my fair share. I prefer sneakies, probably owned 100 or so over the years.

Schmekle cues makes a good one
Old Scruggs
Bob Dzuricky makes a great hitting one (though I don't think he is doing new ones)
Mason Houghland sneakies play great, and you might be able to find one
Bluegrass made a great one
Madison Bob if you can find one plays very well
Bob Frey makes a fine one
JoeyinCali (Joey Bautista) makes a great one as well

Lot of really good sneaky petes in the world. I prefer those that have collars on the shaft, or at least a insert. You aren't fooling anyone, and I've had a shaft or two split without a insert or a collar.

I had the model that the bw2 replaced. Ebony sneaky, and I hated it. Felt like a dead log to me. I love Schon's, but not the ebony sneaky. Wasn't the shaft, same shaft on my other schon played great.

I think I got what you were saying, mon. But that was my point, you feel the woodworth is good, but I thought the one I had was a friggin unpredictable noodle.

Asking for advice on a playing cue is silly. Like you said and the posts here agree, everybody has their own likes.

That's why they make almond joy and mounds.

Not the best sneaky out there but I just thought the OB Sneaky with a OB Pro shaft for $350 is a pretty good value. I'd be playing with one if I didn't have my Scruggs Z2.
