Mosconi Updates Please

I guess we could lobby to make it rack your own and put Corey and Donny in there.

Or we could get Schmidt and Harriman on the team, but that would end up in a brawl in the team room or they'd get blocked from playing by str8 shots.

Maybe they should switch it to bonus ball and we can just say we won because nobody understands that shit anyway.

This is not good for Team USA.

Yes, bonus ball. Perfect. I'm in. Game of the future.

As an European I'm quite happy with the results of today (in some of the matches I was really sweating for Europe, some of them maybe not that much).

But I wish you Americans better rolls tomorrow, especially for Earl, who is one my favorite players of all time (and who was, by far, the best American out there tonight.)

May the pool gods have their ways tomorrow and we'll have a game again...

Talk about kicking someboyd when they're down. Your comment is like me saying if Keith McCready was on the team, then Team USA would have won today, no problem.

Come on, man. The epitome of Monday night quarterbacking.

Well, I can dig up the prior posts long before this event started where I said flat out that Dennis was the wrong pick for the MC this year. I said months ago that Corey was robbed and that the American team would pay for that choice.

I called this long before it happened. It was not hard to see coming.

As a fan of pool I WANT America to be a strong presence in the sport because I think the USA is a crucial place to attract both fans and players for the future of the sport. That is why the state of pool in America ticks me off so much and I become so vocal about it at times like this.

Just imagine what it would be like if not for one single player, SVB, who is now almost single handed carrying the future of the sport for the entire USA. Without him who would the USA have to pin their hopes for the future on? Mike Dechaine? Landon Shuffet? Seriously, there is no one else. SVB is basically Atlas carrying the entire hopes of American pool squarely on his shoulders. That HAS to get kinda heavy for him, don't you think?

... in the future this could be a Europe vs Philippines (or Asia) and call it the Reyes Cup!

Part of the problem is there's not team unity on Team USA. None of them are in unison like the Team Europe members are.

On the Team Europe side, you saw all five players right behind the player competing in the pit, front row and center. After every game, they came rushing over to encourage or give congratulations.

Team USA, where were all the members? Sure, some were in the audience, but I didn't see a lot of them up front by the player like Team Europe was.

Team Europe eats, sleeps, and practices togehter. Everybody on Team USA goes their own way.

And then there's the BCA who doesn't do squat for American professional pool.

American professional pool is circling the drain, and nobody gives a damn.

Is this true? I went out to dinner with the family and missed the matches when Dennis/Johnny played and the Darren/Rodney match. Earlier, I saw the Europeans supporting eachother but did seethe American interactions. Is this hyperbole or have they abandoned eachother? Was earl around?

The BCA is to blame! And bonus ball, they caused the USA to lose! Yeah, but the IPT is cool, just sayin.

Soooo.....

What's the score?

Europe has 5 points. Team USA has none. A bloodbath. Somewhat unexpected because Europe is most definitely not at full strength. Team USA's best player today was Earl. But then he went on tilt. He was seen shortly after the second match boarding a pedicab, with his cue still fully assembled, wearing the European teams jersey, and on his way to the airport. He was overheard mumbling something about side pockets and how the game is too easy.

I root for the home team as much as the next guy, but lets be real, USA fans are out of their mind if they think we EVER had a chance. EVER. We reallly only have one guy who can win against them, SVB. He plays all those guys and will have a winning record most of the time, the rest of team USA, not so much.

Too bad, pool here is not dying people, its been dead for a few years. We need a real pool tour, like the PGA, with events, sponsers, promotors, and players who are out for one thing, and one thing only, to make the sport as good as possible. Unfortunilty we have far to many ME ME ME ME folks in our sport.

I only have a few minutes because I have to get ready for the HOF dinner but I will pass on a couple of quick observations:

IMO there is a huge difference in how the Euros are playing as a team and how the Americans are (not).

The Euros are focused in on the table and their match at hand. A couple of the Americans seem more preoccupied with what's going on in the friends and family seating area, frequently looking around instead of remaining focused on the table.

Earl is already chirping and has already mutter words about how they're easy when their hanging in the hole instead of needing to shoot jacked up.

Buddy is on a scooter. For a while he was back in the camera area and then spent some time on the aisle near the rack area and then I didn't see him.

The AZ crowd was in the front row behind from where the players were breaking.

Most of the usual suspects are here.

Could be a short week the way things are going...
