What tip do cue makers put on your cues?

No special order...just what the maker thinks is best? Layered or not? Kikel uses Sumo, never heard of it...Paul Dayton likes Talisman, I know that one.
It is the business end? I trust cue makers more than I do advertising:groucho:
 
Triangle unless the customer specifies a different one.

Ordered a danielson that should be ready within a week or so, i tought kamui is standard with him, and i wanted a kamui black ss , so there was no problem.

The Red tips are individually sold and have a glue side layer of brown leather.
The Gold tips come in the group packs and have a glue side layer of black leather.

I don't think there is any "playability" differences between them.

All Ultra Skins for layered tips.

If someone wants a cue tip put on a cue that I don't stock they bring it in and I put it on for them at a discount.

I have been doing a lot of G2s lately and I like the way the install and players seem to like them.

Most layered tip people I do business love Tom's Ultra Skins and they are a real value for the performance.

I will not buy a Kamui. They are great tip but they are way too much money. I refuse to charge my customers 40.00 to put a tip on.

I play with a Triangle on my Schuler 3C cue.

BTW, I don't press my tips either. I just burnish the side and crown them with a sharp razor and let compression refusal take it coarse from the tip being played with unless the player requests the tip being pressed. I have a few guys who request pressing.

I use BK hard tip red labeled,and i'm very pleased with the tip. But recently i put gold BK hard tip on the cue. This tip is much harder, and i miscue more with that tip.
Is there any other difference other the hardness?

Not that I'm aware of. I'm ready to change out this medium and it's only been a few months, it plays really dull and glazes over too quickly.
 
I had a few tips mushroom slightly. i mentioned this and Tom Hay sent me a tip press. I started pressing tips and I get about 5 to 7 thou of compression on a new tip. I am waiting to see if it makes a difference.

You have raised an important issue.
The same cue or cue shaft, almost without doubt, no one tip will please all the people who try it.
I have found that a change in tip makes all the difference to the players.
I have a large selection of tips from layered to traditional tips.
I ask what they think, and based on that will give them another tip to try until we get the combination that they like.
Most often it is not the shaft, but the shaft tip combo that does not quite suite them.
Finding the right tip for the cue they have is more important than most will give credit. Just because they have had a cue with brad e tips, does not mean that on their next cue that brand or particular tip is going to be best for that setup.
It all comes down to a persons feel and preference. No one is wrong in what they like.

Currently: an Aramith with a Kamui clear pad under it. :D
Before that, a black Kamui Clear, Zan, Samson, Kamui black, Onyx, Ultra Skin, WB, Everest, Talisman. Hard to say what the next one will be! I like to try different tips....

No pressing but I do bite it first to make sure it is a good one.

Wait time depends on if it is hunting season or if the fish are biting.
