OK, so it's been years since I played competitive pool, or took much interest in the rules of pool as such. I play at home socially on my own table, I make my own cues, but I don't have a lot to do with all those nuances that make up playing the game competitively as such any more.
So just watching a youtube video from the 2007 Mosconi cup, where Earl was made to unscrew and lay down a cue, because he walked into the arena holding 4 cues ..... count em .... 4. (And they all looked the same .....)
I remember the old rule from my playing days ..... a player may bring 3 cues to a match.
So, what defines a cue.
Can a player bring a "Butt", with 2 shafts. What if the player brings a butt with 4 shafts, or 6 shafts.
What if I bring a Shaft, with 3 butts.
Can a player bring 3 cues, but then borrow a cue they did not "bring" to the match themselves. Can you "use" more cues than you "bring" ?
What if I build a cue, or a cue system where all the butts and shafts are interchangeable. Its like a breaking, jumping, playing, masse cue. It has 4 or 5 butt sections and 10 or so shafts.
And why the hell does it matter how many cues a player brings to a match anyway ?
Try telling a golfer to only bring 3 clubs to an event.
What gives with this rule ? Any idea why it was invented ? Is it still even current ??
