Fast-forward and slow motion playback

I am sure some of you already know this, if you do not know enjoy..

I always wanted to see some shots at slow motion on Youtube videos, i could not do it with the standard browsers, so i decided to cut and past the Youtube link to my favorite media player VLC Media Player , and walla i got full control, fast forward slow motion, zoom, you name it; do not slo mo already slow players, you will give up on slo mo before they shoot.

A good trick, mouse right click to get playback menu.
 
I just tried it. The works really well. It even looks a lot clearer than youtube, maybe its just my eyes, lol.

The E key advances frame by frame, but I didn't find the key to go backwards one frame.

Can you pretend I have no clue what I am doing and tell me how to do this. I have windows media player. Windows 7.

Hi Paul,
Windows Media player does not view links direct, you would have to download the file,, then view it, To get VLC Media player download it at http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ install it, once installed open it, then copy the video link that someone put at AZB, or go to youtube and copy the link of viedo you want to watch then click on media tab, then click on open location from clip board, you should see the link that you selected, and click play, while playing right mouse click and choose playback, and pick your speed.

You can also google and download the Firefox browser application 'Download Helper', which makes it east to download youtube videos. Then you can play the file using the VLC or other media players that have more functions than youtube.
 
Yup, if you save the youtube vid (lots of ways to do this) you get full control
with the nicer movie players like VLC and media player classic.
One of my favorite features is to step forward frame-by-frame.
Makes it easier to judge stuff like "railfirt or ball first? Good hit or bad hit?".

I did that for this post on one of Busty's cool shots and the software makes it
easy to save a screenshot of that frame.

With VLC you do not need to download, the youtube link works direct.
 
VLC is a powerhouse with many hidden talents.....

+1 & high five for VLC. Playing nearly any audio or video format is just one of its many abilities. It is a media powerhouse with the ability to not only download & decode an audio and/or video stream, but also encode, compress and upload an audio and/or video stream to nearly any other computer or server within your network (house) or in the world (aka a media server & client). Not only that, it can be used to encode and compress from nearly any file format to nearly any file format (aka a media converter). And much, much more.

Warning, while it is a powerhouse of media wizardry, it does take some knowledge to accomplish nearly any advanced task you use it for other than just a media player. However, the good news is there is plenty of documentation online for it. It can even be used for broadcasting a stream to Justin.tv or any other streaming site if you know how to and they support it.

I've used it since the late 1990's as my default media player. While it might not be the prettiest of applications, its ability to do what I ask of it exceeds its lack of visual appeal (its much prettier now than it used to be, that's for sure). There may be other applications out there that do one thing or another just a little better, but almost none of them can do everything that VLC can do. Mastering all of VLCs abilities is a dedicated hobby within itself.
