Earl vs Efern @ Steinway. Purse?

Found this on Inside Pool's web site:

The match series will feature three disciplines of pool; 8-ball, 9-ball and 10-ball with each day showcasing one style. The matches will all be races to 17 for $3000 on a 10-foot table.

So if someone wins all three matches they win $9,000 only $91,000 less than 18
years ago.

Several years ago and first place paid like 300 thousand
 
just being positive about the situation

I am sure you can donate to the pot. The fact that a pool room in NYC is willing to pay or raise 9K is awesome. Pool rooms are dying across America and especially in NYC area - they are scarce.

I'm not sure any event played on American soil has paid more than $50,000 to its winner since the IPT folded in 2006.

Manny, who owns Steinway Billiards, has gone into his own pockets and is putting up a lot of money for two legendary players who are way past their primes. How much money is your poolroom proprietor putting up for pro exhibitions this month?

Manny is a credit to our game and to make light of his beneficence is way out of line. No slap in the face here, just generosity.

nice of Steinway Billiards but seems a waste of good money. They won't make anything from this event but it's their money.

On the 10ft table Earl isn't a dog against anyone if he keeps his head together.. Efren has had some health issues the last couple of years but still is world class speed.... last 3 years according to the interweb (no I didn't fact check) for Efren

Actually I'd hazard a guess that they more than break even on this... I know several pool patrons who will be flying in to attend the event and it will likely be standing room only during the match which will require a cover charge at the door... I also would bet they are being given a cut of the pay per view which should also help offset the $9000... I only wish we were doing it because it would be a great addition to the accu-stats catalog and I'd be buying the DVDs for my library.....

I don't believe this to be the case. I doubt they will charge a cover but the place will be packed. The food & drink sales should definitely help offset the costs.

I think the advertizement and "rep" they would get for hosting this is worth that much.

After I saw the HK Challenge match, if I had the money to do so I would have flown to the pool room they had it in so I can play on the same table and visit the "arena" so to speak.
 
Steinway i s more than a pool room. Many people spend time there. They play dominoes, watch soccer on greek tv. Great really great food. Nice place. Nice of the owner to do this.

Yes-No safeties, you must make an honest effort. On the 8 Ball, its not a scratch if you dont make contact but the CB must go 3 rails. Balls on the rail may be moved one cue butt width off the rail-Simple standardized World rules :smile:
