Help identify this cue

This cue was handed down to me on my eight birthday (1988) from my father. He got the cue from his father. Since we (father and I) haven't spoken in years its potential history is unknown.

Unfortunately there are no marks or identifications on the cue to assist. If anybody has information about this cue please let me know! Relegated to breaking duties due to its massive 13.8-14 mm tip I keep using it due to the sentimental value.

Hubler....

Huebler...I'm 99% sure, but I've been wrong a couple times before.:thumbup:


Looks like a nylon insert in the shaft....

now the chalk, if I'm not mistaken, that's a cube of tweeten master chalk in blue (their most popular color, even today) and with the flag.

You made me google spalted, KC.....your case is on 'shrooms....
...spalted is a discolorization caused by fungi.

The cloth, IMO, is Forstman

Thanks for sparing me having to google spalting. I was cringing at what images might appear.

Brian? Please rein in your spalting! That should NOT be a word! :eek:
 
That looks identical to the first viking I ever had. I have never seen a huebler that did not use brown rubber on the butt, but i haven't seen that many huebler's either

Its one of his first series that was built and YES HE USED A PILL BUMPER
that design was used in about 3 different series of cues Paul built
The cue was known as a QB-2 , HI-2 or the H-4, and the H4
the QB-2 and the HI-2 were exactly the same with one small difference the QB had a longer ferrule.
Paul used 5 different bumpers over the years. Black Pill Bumper used up until the late 70s, black Brunswick style bumper used on a few Custom Shop cues that had no logo, black cone shaped bumper used on the first Hustler cues before 93, Black and Red bumpers Used until he closed, the red being the more common

It is a Taft case! It turned out fantastic except he put the wrong handle on it (plastic luggage handle instead of a leather push handle). His wood work is top notch!

The box of chalk inside the case is blue diamond, the masters chalk was free when my team made it to APA nationals in 2010 and 2011 (one box per year)

Cloth: Unknown. I purchased the table about 2 years ago and need to get it re-railed and felted except its a 1-piece slate with a very slight roll away from one side (8" wide section with the roll) so i'm afraid it isn't worth the effort. :sorry:

The case is curly maple for the trim and walnut for the primary (was unaware of exactly what wood was used in grandpa's cue until just a few posts above).
 
The only part I don't get about this advert is that the tip is nearly 14 mm rather than the 13 mm stated.
