What are Full Time Cue Makers doing about Health Care

Yes I love my insurance but how am I NOT paying for it? Greater than 10% tax bracket for 30 years is how I’m paying for it. I must be of some value to my employer who is paying more taxes is how I’m paying for it. Yes I own my home, is how I’m paying for it.

We’re getting way off topic from the original question. Honestly I don’t know how anyone can make cues full time and afford anything these days.

Very sorry to hear about your recent set backs. We lost a son to cancer when he was 9. Without insurance I would not own my house today. He didn’t smoke or drink either.
I think this subject can become too personal. As you, without my insurance I don't know where I would be today. I had a surgery about 15 years ago that is the kind that bankrupts someone without insurance. People have to be prepared for these life changing possibilities that represent reality. It is just bizarre to hear some of what people say who don't have insurance and don't want it or think they don't need it. It is a head in the sand attitude I just can't understand.

Well, if you knew me, thats me being facetious. If you were terminally ill a company wouldn't cover you. I have found plans for a single male, single and lost my home this year, 70%/30% for most and per month ranged from $ 90 to $300 per month plus a deductible from 3,000 to as much as 10k. $30 + for a doctor visit and $50 for a specialist. Yes numbers varied but bottom line is until I pay off the debt my ex left me with and have the money for an attorney to force the sale of the house or get her to refinance as im still on the mortgage.....then maybe I can think about insurance, another house ohh and Not being married.
What numbers did you use for your income? It is going to be based on your projected 2014 income that may in fact from what you say be quite a bit different from 2012 that is your last reporting year. If you make an estimate and are off all that happens is it will correct it self in 2015. In other words, if you earn even less then you put down you will get a credit. If you earn more then you estimate you will have a liability.

You may need to run the numbers again with your current situation. I want you to have insurance, I know from personal experience what it is worth when you need it. If my tone was off in my last post to you I apologize it is just frustration to see all the lies that are being spread. You need real honest and correct advice. The ACA phone number answers in like 2 minutes and you can talk to someone who may be able to help you. Explain your situation to them and see what they can do for you.

Don't just walk away, even the least of plans is better then nothing. A max of $10,000 out of pocket will look pretty small when you compare it to real world hospital costs if you find yourself in there. You will be real glad you have that card in your pocket. Also later you can often deal with a hospital. They like cash and you can almost always settle with them for far less then your actual out of pocket cost.

....I did have health insurance at one time and it wasn't paying for much,....

You unknowingly touched on one of the biggest problems related to health insurance that **no one** is talking about. Some time ago, health insurance went from being "insurance" to being something that nearly everyone (and especially special interest groups) just suck whatever they can out of.

I mean, why should insurance (something you keep for something that goes wrong) be required to pay for something as silly as birth control, that costs maybe $25-50 a month? And....everyone should be required to pay something to use the Emergency Room. Yes, even the Medicaid patients that say they have no money even thought they are wearing $2000 worth of ink on their skin and just bought a carton of cigarettes that's out in their car.

It is not insurance anymore, so imo they need to stop calling it that. With this stupid PPACA, they've pretty much done everything they can to ensure it gets even more expensive for everyone that's contributing financially....and interjected the federal gov't as "king" over yet another part of our everyday lives. Imo, everyone should stop buying it altogether and let the whole damn thing collapse. Then, and only then, will the concept of "health insurance" return.

Ok....done with my rant today. Says the guy paying over $1500 per month for a high-deductible family coverage plan.

Carry on. :)

I agree...
STOP BUYING...

I Looked into Obama Care, I have had insurance only once in 20 years, and it was only for a year as it wasn't worth the paper it was written on. I looked into Obama care, screw that, Ive seen lower deductibles for a terminally ill patient !! And the cost per month vs the amount of coverage was ridiculous. I didn't qualify for any subsidies. Soooo Im sailing along as always eating right and not going to the doctor.

AS long as you don't have any assets to protect and you don't get unexpectedly sick or have an accident you can keep on sailing but as mentioned a small problem requiring hospitalization might end you up in bankruptcy court. Lifting weights doesn't make you healthy, it makes you strong. ot the same thing.

As to the OP's question, I've spent an average of $600 a month since 1980, am on Medicare and a $200 a month supplemental plan.

I've bought my own health insurance for a family of 4 for over 10 years. I've been on the same plan from the same company for about 5 years now. By the way, it doesn't cancel each year. It does get renewed, and sometimes there are minor changes. Of course, there are price increases as well.

When the ACA rolled out, my insurance company notified me that my plan was not compliant with the new rules. I had a choice of keeping my current plan and expecting a penalty at the end of 2014, or switching to a new plan that met all the requirements of the ACA. The new plan was more than double, and the additional coverage was minimal or didn't apply to me and my family. I re-enrolled in my existing plan.

I have not been on the website to see what the exchange has to offer. We tried at first, but had to make a decision before we could actually get through. I guess we didn't actually have to make that decision as everything has been pushed back now. I guess I'm stupid for following the rules and doing things the right way.

I think it would be great if everyone had access to health care. I just don't think the price should have anything to do with a person's income, and without charging more to some so it can be cheaper for others, I just don't see how it can work. You can't get blood out of a turnip, and money doesn't grow on trees.

That one statement just hit me.............. why should your health care cost be tied to your income.............. isn't that prejudicial......????? or is that the whole point........... re distribution of wealth..............

We have a winner.

Well said Royce,

You see you are a producer. In a government run by those who wish to redistribute wealth, producers are the ones who get punished because they want someone else's vote. It is class warfare. They are stealing our freedom by telling those in their voting block they will get everything for nothing. Those people who believe the lie will be hurt also. There is no Santa Clause.

In the end the system they are developing can't stand up and it will destroy the economy because the health care numbers will be unsustainable for the economy to handle. They want a destroyed economy, that is what this is all about.

When everyone wakes up to find all the money is worthless then the powers that be will have all the power.

This is communism being forced upon the people.

JMO,

Rick

CNN money matters reported in 2008 that the bulk of Obama's campaign contributions came from trial lawyers. Immediately after the election, every commercial on tv was about suing a doctor or drug company. The wealth was redistributed to insurance companies and ambulance chasers. The rest of us ... including doctors got ripped off.
