service on cues

honesty has never been an issue

owning the cues I expected him to do the repair work on his own cues

I build fishing rods and always feel disappointed when I see one of my rods in someone elses shop

im the one taking the chance by sending them away

I found a local builder I trust to do it right and they are home now

btw the local builder does some very nice inlay work too

I think Barry's response to the matter at hand is pretty clear and I hope you can come to understand that his honesty about the matter actually benefits you both.

Proud to have you as a friend Barry!

all I asked about were tips,,,,the asswer was a year

later I did mention a shaft for a gus

a year for tips,,,,,,,,,lol

call me when you are in a good mood

I might still have the cues,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,bill

after buying some cues from a maker is it expected to have basic service ( like tips) done by the maker in a reasonable time ?

just wondering cause I now have a couple of high end cues that the maker tells me....................call me back in a year to check if he will have the time

I still don't completely follow why you attempted to trash the man.

I do understand your disappointment that Barry told you he could not accommodate your service request- regardless of what it was/ they were- and your belief that a maker should continue to be available for service on his wares.

But he was honest with you and freed you up to pursue alternatives.

I think you would be far more bothered if he had taken the work and the turnaround was a year. His honesty kept this from happening.

Did you buy the 'boti from the maker, btw?

I'd also want a total shaft cleaning, sealing, making the tip, ferrule, and shaft perfectly flush, smooth, etc.

If someone can't do the above in a "professional" manner, then they SHOULDN'T be a cue maker at all if you ask me.

:)

And we are each entitled to an opinion.

Given the specific case at hand, do you really think that Barry 'shouldn't be a cue maker'?

Is it possible that he has an amount of work on his plate that he has to be selective about what he agrees to do? The man does have a service standard that he holds himself to and to violate it wold be a sure lose-lose proposition.

I don't know who your cue maker is that told you to "call back in a year", but that would be my last time dealing with him. I would try to find one of the very good cue repair people either near you or one you can ship your cues to for any repairs. I wouldn't want to deal with someone who told you to "call back in a year" period.

And I agree with it being unacceptable to wait a year for a tip job, just to clarify my take on the matter further...

Yes he should be a cue maker, but also a customer service rep as well. IF he said he can't do a tip (which doesn't take that long) then that is bad customer service. Most of us cue makers have more than one lathe to work with and I am sure Barry has several, so in the amount of time it would have taken him to do the tip and make the end user a happy repeat customer he said no? I hope not! I want my cues to come back for tip work and maintenace, thats just more money after the sale for me, plus I can continue the relationship with the customer.

Gotta say I don't see replacing tips as repair work. Service, sure but not repair.
No more that changing shoe laces requires a repairman or having an alteration to an expensive designer name Tux..you'd go to a seamstress or other...not to Armani.

I think it is unreasonable that you'd come here to complain about this and infer that you'll dump his cues..( I'm sure Barry is crushed by this ).
