Chromecast

What can it do that a cable from laptop can't do? Does it get TAR PPV, Acu-Stats, and the other streams? Johnnyt

Nothing really. It's just nice that its wireless and really nice if your using a pad or phone and hooking up by wire isn't an option.

bought 2 when it was released. Great device. Use it mainly for youtube pool, but also netflix and HBO2GO. New apps are going to start flooding in for it soon.

I watch a lot of streaming stuff and seem to also watch some kind of pool videos on youtube etc. I used to run a long hdmi cable from my laptop to my tv but finally broke down and bought a chromcast. Now I hit a button and it appears on my tv. Also allows me to continue on the computer in new tab without losing the pic. For mere $35 its money well spent if you watch streams much.

Got one for Christmas and it works great. For once exactly as advertised and better than expected. We can control it from any device, macbook, android phone, ipad - flawless so far.

Freedom from the cable is HUGE.

OK, thank you. I have an extra laptop hooked up to be the big screen in the office and RCA stream box. Wife bought me the Chromecast thing W/O asking as usual. Johnnyt

I bought the thing and as usual it doesn't work so i have another piece of junk sitting around to add to my collection of useless products. It seems the router comcast gives me is not compatible with Chromecast and it looks like FIOS at my other plalce will not work either-Just great!

I cant even watch TAR anymore WITH an HDMI cable as comcast will not allow me to connect to audiovideoweb. Probably because they figure it's a way to watch TV without cable which it isnt in this case.

I've been without cable for well over a year now. I just watched what I could get through an antenna or I would stream Netflix through my BluRay, though the interface was terrible. For Christmas I received a Chromecast from a friend and I didn't really know much about it but what a fantastic little device! I now watch all my Netflix through it, controlling it via my phone, and then I can also cast anything from my computer to the TV. Youtube also works great directly controlled from my phone which has proven quite useful as well.

Definitely one of the best gifts I received this year!

not sure what's wrong, going wrong or you're doing wrong but chrome cast is wifi device and should be compatible with anything that gives out a signal or connects to the internet. If you go back to my earlier post you might find some info that could help. The only thing that i know it doesn't work with is VPN

I dont know what VPN is but i followed the steps and eventually got a message "Oops something went wrong we cannot find chromecast on your network or similar. Then when i 'troubleshooot' it gives me a list of routers that work and some that dont work. It appears mine is one that wont work. F it-back to the HDMI cable

Just get a different router from your cable provider.. Shouldn't even be a cost, just an exchange and it WELL worth the effort.. I love the chromecast. Best drop of money I've spent in as long as can remember..

and the first Laptop i used to which is only 3 years old maybe 4-It just said no way we can set CC up using "this device" so it isnt always so easy.

It is a great device as you can see by the comments, and well worth it. The only advice I have left (next being in the mix so-to-say) is to a) have a drink, read over the directions slowly and try to set it up again "using safari" as your browser. b) call them up if possible and see if they agree with your router situation.

No saying anything about you or you knowledge or nothing of the sort, but sometimes we make mistakes. I am somewhat good at all this tech stuff (replaced the LCD monitor of my laptop by myself in less that 45 mins "really proud of that") and have made silly error before.

This thing is as big as going from the church key to the tab on a can

It allows you to access streaming content that Amazon and HBOtoGo block from computer to TV connections via HDMI cable.

I found I can watch anything by using the Chrome browser and cast this tab. Might not work though for tar ppvs because of the window limitations.

Yeah that's sweet. I had Roku which I put on another TV when I got an LG Smart TV which has Amazon (weird how nothing in that industry is standardized) and just assumed it would have HBOGO (which LG does not). So when I discovered that there was no HBOGO I figured no problem I'll just HDMI my iPad to the TV, but the HBO App (and Amazon too from what I've heard) actually sense the HDMI and block the content.

How are you doing it?

Are you casting the live stream as a browser tab or what? I've found tab casting to be a little unpredictable with my setup.

3-4 years is old for a laptop. Wish is wasn't so, but it is.. But it should still be able to work... I'll buy the chromecast off of you if you don't want it. PM me. ..
