25th annual Smokey Mountain Shootout

From what I understand -- and I could be wrong -- AzBilliards takes the stance that they are happy to report all news that is sent to them by someone on site at a tournament, but somebody on site at the tournament has to initiate this.

For whatever reason, the promoters of Smokey Mountain Shootout don't ever report anything to AzBilliards, much less any other pool media outlet. I have never understood why. :frown:

I'm guessing that they stay busy making it successful and have little time or energy to use mass communication. One thing about the Smoky Mtn's the old-timey ways are still revered. So, I could be wrong, but I believe that they use the old-fashioned social network. Word of mouth, sending their fliers to the same faithful entrants and getting return entrants every year. They use about the same weekend each year, have a full field every year and pay out like they should... players will show up if they know about it. I have friends that go every year, but hardly ever do I hear a word about it, until the field is already full. Hoping to make it this year.

I remember last year, somebody asking for the results of this event. I spent hours on Google trying to find one shred of news. It was almost nonexistent.

Sadly, whoever manages this tournament, there ain't much by way of advertisement. I guess it's a word-of-mouth thing, but it sure does suck for those who like to follow pool happenings.

Good luck finding out anything before, during, and after the Smokey Mountain Shootout. You'd think somebody would cover this event after 25 years and let the pool media know what's happening, to include us pool fans. :(
Jam, this may help in the future, or it may not. It is Smoky(not smokey) Mtn. Mike made a common mistake in spelling.

The US National Park Agrees!

Yes, and even the US National Park spells it Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It gets its name from the mist that looks like smoke from afar. My favorite town there is Gatlinburg. If you ever want to get the feel of a quaint village in Germany, but don't want to go too far, try it out. Also, Harrah's has a casino in Cherokee that now has table games. And Fontana Lake has a beautiful scene.

Contact bigtruck. ..... and put a sign up list on az bc I nvr hear about this tourney in enough time to get in

PoolActionTV will be at this event.

I signed up on Blind Faith that I could get enough support from the Industry to cover it. I still am well short of my goal. If anyone would like to help make this live coverage the best ever please contact me asap.

Companies that are already on board helping the event get live coverage are:

Simonis Cloth
Kamui Tips USA
Emerald Billiards
Lomax Custom Cues
Hanshew Custom Cues

Your company can get: Event banners, Commercials, On Screen logos and I will even put up a clickable banner ad on the website.

I will be covering One Premium match table leading to the finals, Reporting on other matches at the event, posting brackets (pictures minimum), I will post the players list at the beginning of the event and post results with photos at the end. I will also Supply AZ Billiards with any and all information they need to do a nice story about the event.

The ARC Foundation is a great organization that is nationwide!! You can read about what they do here: http://www.thearc.org/what-we-do

Thanks,

Ray

Like I said, it fills early. Petey, are you sure of this, might keep some from sending in their entry? I ask because I have not talked to Gary in a while.

Great to see you making the trip for this event, look forward to seeing you there.

It is different from any event I have ever seen, it is more like a reunion every year. There are people that may only play one big event a year and this is it. I have been there every year for the last dozen or so and I wouldn't miss it unless life truly got in the way.

I tried to give a cliff's notes version last year when I got home, a few pics and a recap. I admit I am not a good or very willing reporter, glad someone will be there to cover this the way it should be.
