I once bought a stolen double bass off ebay, upon picking it up I realized the bass had a serial number removed with fingernail polish. I made a couple phone calls to the school district and found that they had been missing a couple of instruments, fortunately this one had the serial number engraved in the tuning machine plate and we were able to verify that it was one of the missing instruments. I returned it to the school system and they refunded me my investment, then I approached the pawn shop/seller and they refunded my investment. Granted I only got 950 total for a 10k bass but I felt good about it. I guess the moral of the story is buy it back, use photo identification and try to recoup funds. Worst case scenario the pawn shop has to provide you with the thief credentials once you've proved that it was stolen and the f$XkheD goes to jail. I hope you get your cue back proper
