We have a list of some of the best cue makers. So lets make a list of ones to avoid. I know some high end cues take hours and hours to produce. So what...if they look gaudy and over the top then we don't want them.

Who makes some distasteful cues?

One mans gaudy trash is another mans treasure. They all make some gaudy cues that may not be another person's up of tea.

Here's my gaudiest cue out of about 150 total.
I may have one or two that are gaudier, I don't remember
This cue is 10-years old
Don't worry about the cuemaker, he is retired.
60" long with 14 mm ferrule-less shafts
Believe it or not, people want to buy this cue from me.
The story is that it was made for a very famous player

The Meucci Gambler Series. They have different playing cards on the button cap area. A little too much imo.

Dom-pop, you should embrace gaudy cues, don't avoid them><

A lot of production stuff is gaudy, like the blue plastic mother of pearl looking Vikings I see at league all the time, but can a $300 production cue be gaudy?
The answer is no, production cues have to cost over $400 to be gaudy, anything less and they are just ugly or tacky, maybe all three.
I've had cuemakers tell me that their ugliest cues are always the first to sell at shows.
There may be some custom cuemakers that build gaudy cues, but why name them when it's more fun to pick on the production stuff.
"That cue isn't worth enough to be gaudy, it's just ****ing ugly"

Seamed like gaudy was in at SBX. Lots of beautiful cues, but lots of over the top bling and very busy designs on many cues.

Like someone said, It's in the eye of the beholder.

There are a whole slew of gaudy case makers that's for sure and they are getting high praise too. There is no accounting for taste.

I have a Coca Cola cue I won at a fund raiser tournament for the Houston Rodeo. I kept it because all Coca Cola stuff seems to be worth something after a while.

Dan Breggin - Colorado Cues. One of the coolest cuemakers I've ever had the pleasure of speaking with. He made a great hitting cue - Dennis Hatch used his cues for awhile. Was this one of Dennis' cues?

Beautiful cue. Rich aka the skunk.

IMO.....there's a very thin line between gaudy and just flat out unappealing....and this cue in the photo is the definitely the latter.

Threads like this are not beneficial to anyone.

You don't know what you don't like?

This is for sure a great player!

This is where I draw the line

I'm sure that exact this cue would have been the best player worldwide........................at least around the 12th century. OK, not for playing Pool. But still very usefull for some Vikings (Noooo, not the cues) to cut some heads away!
The brand-logo allready says it: JP for John Player's Special or was it...uups...!

Back a few years McDermott had so many cues in their line it was crazy. One was uglier then the next. There was no design elements to them at all, just jam as many inlays in as possible.

Joss east has some cues in their line that you just look at and shake your head. WTF it this supposed to be.

Hard to believe that McDermott actually made that abomination, and I understand the MSRP was something like $150K?? Horrible!

Personally I think a lot of the old Szamboti cues that have a bunch of inlays were pretty gaudy, but you can't touch one of those for under 10 grand.
