A fellow AZer and friend of mine fd_colorado shared with me a good way to search the forum using Google. I have found this trick useful many times.

In Google's search window type your query and add on
site:azbilliards.com.

This should narrow down Googles search to just this forum.
Here is an example.

butterfly cues site:azbilliards.com

https://www.google.com/search?q=but...8&sourceid=chrome&espv=210&es_sm=122&ie=UTF-8

I hope you find this as handy as I have.
 
Many thanks. Forum search functions are notoriously bad.

Maybe I'll be able to search rather than asking my newbie questions.

Nothing speaks to growth more than a place where newbie questions are welcome.

I personally can't stand opening up a thread and reading an honest question followed by someone rudely or sarcastically suggesting that you use the search feature.

Nothing kills a forum quicker than alienating people from joining the discussion because they fear forum regulars. Most regulars move on over a period of time and its those newbies who once asked question that are becoming the ones answering them.

Not everyone has the time or desire to dig through pages of search results. Not to mention the reality that your "newbie" question opens up the door for other newbs to participate in a fresh discussion with fresh perspectives.

....I say ask away.

Remember there are no stupid questions.....just stupid people who ask questions:p

You are correct about the search feature on forums, I usually end up being frustrated.

I'd also like to mention that new points of view, even from the original posters,
sometimes takes the subject to a whole new level.

The other cool thing about this technique is you can save you search and have an automatic alert sent to you every time there is a hit on the site. (I think this only works with a Gmail account or other account linked to Google though.)

To set this up just go to http://www.google.com/alerts and then use the same format of search term that Cuebuddy mentions (EG "aiming systems site:azbilliards.com") and watch the emails flood in.
 
This is a great technique. I also combine this with the quotes trick
(works in AZ search too but AZ search blows).
And you can then filter by date, limit to last 24 hours, etc.
