I was in a situation like this last night, though not an exact replica. Was on a table run, didn't have enough power on my shot to get my leave on my 8. And was left with this. Walked around the table for a couple minutes, couldn't access anything. I ended up making it, ill see if any one had a better idea that I didn't see then say how it did it.

Half ball contact on the 2-ball, higher than medium speed, should get you
the 8-ball in the left hand corner.

If you had to make the 8 clean, aim about halfway between diamond and chalk on the end rail....2 rail bank back down to the right hand corner...

Even looks like aiming for the chalk might get you bottom left corner... Even the carom off the 2 is risky because the angle may throw the CD into the one and the scratch in the side. Lots of different ways to pocket that 8 ball from the looks of the pic.

Looking at the rack I'm thinking the 8 off the two probably was available to me, but didn't see it. I ended up calling the 8 into the right side pocket. Cut the 8 into the 5, which forced it to the 1 and that directed it back into the side with a painfully slow roll. I was happy as can be....meanwhile, the cueball went 2 rails, glanced off a ball, into the corner pocket....damn!!!

A mini umbrella shot- good thinking!

Sucks about the scratch but you're seeing the possibilities out there.

Yeah 8 carom off the 2 in the upper left or a one-pocket bank back and to the left.... back and to the left.

well 2ball isnt supported from another ball so carom the 8 looks impossimple to me .So if you must try to pot the8 and not to play safe i d rather put extreme low -draw and shoot the 8 on the 2 clear the way and look the 8 going in the upright corner pocket.

I woulda combo'd the two off the 8 into the corner (safe) and drew the cue back against the rail and left a low percentage shot for the opp.... Or Ida banked it back to the left... :)

That looks pretty long to me - like maybe closer to 3 in the side than 2 in the corner. Like you say, the chalk might be close for a 1 railer, tho.

Pretty sure I'd play the carom and try to get the cueball to the rubber somewhere.

I assume you were playing some bastardized rules with no safes?

Because if safes were allowed, Im thinning the 8ball into the 1 and leaving it behind the other two balls there with the cue ball at the rail.

Which brings up what I hate about 8-ball. It forces you to go crazy offensive at times, because you are never going to get the best of a safety battle when you have 1 ball to shoot at, and your opponent has 5. The safety you mention is probably one of the best defensive options available, but the fact is that you are most likely going to be kicking at the 8 for your next shot, which means you either break the 8 out for them or give them BIH with easy breakout or safety options to play. If your opp can play at all, this is probably the best offensive opportunity you are going to get. It sucks, but I feel like you have to play the carom or the bank.

I see the carom off the 2 with a little right English to create some left spin on the 8-ball into the left hand corner pocket.

However, because I love bank shots, I'd probably bank it cross corner (lower left hand) and add some English to avoid a side pocket scratch off the 1.

I think I try to make the 8/2 combo (calling the carom on the 8) and draw the cueball off the side cushion and up to the head rail. If the 2 drops and the cueball ends up very close or frozen to the head cushion, you might have a chance to win even if the 8 doesn't drop. Especially if you manage to hang the 8 up in that corner.
