First and foremost - NO. This is not a belated April Fool's Joke.

Story (and I'm sticking to it) - My better half and I are talking last night, and she tells me that a good friend/coworker of hers was helping her parents clean out the house of her grandparents, prior to putting it up on the market.

During the overhaul, they emptied the contents of a small attic. In those contents was some kind of cue case (no info on what kind of case, yet). Inside this case is a cue (no info on what kind of cue, yet). Turns out - the grandpa, who is now deceased, fancied himself as some kind of pool player, after the end of WWII. Grandma says that he spent a ton of time playing the game, and continued to play until somewhere around the mid-to-late 80's or early 90's (she wasn't exactly sure).

This cue and case almost made it into the dumpster pile, until my wife's friend remembered that I like to play a little pool, myself. She set the set aside, so my wife could ask me if I wanted it. Of course, I said I did.

This could turn out to be absolutely nothing of monetary value...but the story, alone, is cool. The cue COULD be a worthless pile of firewood. It COULD be a simple bang-around hitter. It COULD be something pretty cool...or it COULD be something great. Only time will tell.

Having no information about the items in question, I'm reserving this spot for updates. I'm hoping to have the cue/case in my hands by next week, sometime (earlier would be more better awesomer...but I have no say in that, right now).

Stand by and tune in. I may be setting myself (and all of you) up for major disappointment...but keep your fingers crossed that there may be something pretty sweet on the near-ish horizon!!!

More to come.

Sounds interesting. Would like to hear the end of it when you get case and a cue.
Hope you find something nice.

I`m hoping its a Gus, Mark owes me a favor from way back & this would square us up. I`ll even pay for the shipping.

Looking forward to hearing how this turns out my friend!

I'm sure we will be in contact... ;-)

As cool as I think it would be to have it turn out to be a 'home run' cue...I'm going to err on the side of caution, and bet that it's nothing particularly special.

Then again - strange shit happens all the time. Maybe this is where the fanciest Gus Szamboti of all time has hidden for the last XX number of years??? :grin-square:

I'd LOVE to have a cool story to share about this mystery stick. Guess I'll find out, soon enough.

I won't go bumping up my personal property insurance just yet, though....

I'm going to predict an early model Huebler. Possibly a National or Palmer. Seems in line for the time prior to the mid to late 80's.

McDermott, Meucci and Viking would be right in line if the cue was purchases in the 80's but the older players always seem to stick with whatever cue they bought years prior. They don't jump around from cue to cue like many of us do.

Can't wait to hear what it is.

hey....

Don't you air-barrel us on this, Rat. :)

Can't wait to see the goods. Maybe it's a pre-Joss Timi.....:eek::help::shocked2::slap::shrug::bow-down::scratchhead::outtahere:

Trade you sight unseen for 3 Wheats, two pack of Kamui chalk and slightly deformed boa.

Deal????

Scott

My take is it will be either a cane that converts to a cue, or a "WWII" era hand carved butted cue. But sure hope you hit a home run. Good luck.
