I guess it could be one of the Wolf Hounds.
I was going to say either an Afghan or a similar Hound called a Saluki, (sp).
They all have longer pointed noses that put them in the Gaze Hound category.
They are runners and hunters and actually use their schnozzes much like a rifle scope for sighting.
So they are Sight Hounds rather than a Scent Hound.
They have the runners that will run down and tire out the prey and the killers who will lope along behind the pack and move in for the kill after the prey is tired out.
This particular one looks more like a large Cartoon Rat.

Saw this colorized image of Twain on a Civil War site. Didn't know quite where to put it. Just thought it was interesting...:thumbup:
Twain served for two weeks in the Confederate Army and attained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant before deserting.
