160K Stakehorse Challenge!

pool needs things like this to give it a shot in the arm. but having the same old nine and ten ball formats that are boring and lead to one of the same few players winning will do nothing for the sport.
and since a backer is laying odds on the money why would a smart one take a player that had less than a positive chance of winning.
the solution is to play a game where all the entries have a close chance of winning first place. any other game and it wont last.

I wonder what the 10' Diamond availability is like in other countries. I know they are sparse but available here in the US. I am curious if the equipment will have any impact due to the availability for preparation.

This will be played on 10ft Diamonds at the Derby City Classic 2015.

Their you go, Shane just lost to Tommy on a 9'er. Anything can happen at anytime.
Now Shane plays Earl who's been playing red hot.

I thought that most backers had their favorite players that they backed. John has a history with SVB; other backers have players that they have a history in backing. Why would anyone want to put up $20,000 to get into a lottery situation where they might not get to back the player of their choice?

Totally agree with this...^^^^^^^^^

I understand your point is not whether they are going to play this new event on ten footers,
but why are they, as the availability for preparation is possibly not there for everyone.
I also agree with your point.

Exactly why I don't like them playing on ten footers, it favors those who have a ten footer
available to practice on.

Just don't see how it's an even playing field at the start when only some players have
the chance to practice on the ten footers. Doubt this makes for a better tournament.

I understand that, my question was around foreign players ability to prepare on a Diamond 10' for the event.

Right now there are only 3 in the U.S. setup and available to practice on.

Atlanta
Cinncinnati
New Orleans

One is enroute to Germany and 2 to Russia right now.

This is a good idea. It seems to me the player payout should be higher with that much money floating around but I like it. If it happens and if it gets streamed I'll watch.

I have talked to Greg Sullivan from Diamond Billiards and we came up with a new tournament for 2015 at Derby.

Some of the items are still to be determined but here is what we know so far:

The Stakehorse is able to pick any player on the planet that they can get to Derby
10 Ball - Rules same as Big Foot Challenge
10 foot Diamond tables
Limited to eight stakehorses, entry is 20K each
1st place pays $100,000, 2nd place pays $60,000
The players get 25% of the total payout, 75% to the backers.
The backer gets 60% of the player that he puts in and 40% of another player randomly drawn from the other 7 remaining.
All Stakehorses will get a free room from Greg for the entire tournament.

Items that need to be worked out:
Length of race (I was thinking 9)
Single or Double Elimination (I am thinking a double elim would be better)
Schedule of matches (Two days of matches should be enough I would think)
Etc...

I am in and have picked SVB as my player, other players who I am sure will have someone put them in: Appleton, Orcullo, Bustamante, Pagulyon, Hohmann, Reyes, Neils, Wu, Ralf, Mika, etc...

I am pretty certain that we will have 8 of the top 10 best players in the world, so I will be happy with whoever I get chosen for my other 40%. The stakehorses are allowed to trade their random picks with other stakehorses if both agree.

Betting on matches will be encouraged!

I think this will bring in extra money in the DCC and I know win or lose I am going to have a good time with this event.

We are limited to the next 7 people who contact me and put out some no show money. I have already talked to some of the bigger stakehorses at the last Derby and I know some of the spots are going to go fast.

If anyone has any suggestions or wants to talk about putting someone in let me know.

John Mars

Make em play plenty of pool.
Race to nine round robin all 8 players. point for a win and a tie breaker for strength of win. Get the top 4 and do it again.

There is a ten footer in Fla. at that streaming venue (probably not available to public) but the table at Stienway Billiards in Queens, N.Y. is, however these two are not Diamonds.

They also have a Diamond ten footer set up at Sandcastle Billiards (Edit it was removed) in Edison N. J, (available to public) although it's not in the Accu-stats arena at the moment
because of the John vs. Lou One Pocket Challenge going to be streamed in the Accu-stats arena this Tuesday the 18th.

The one at Sandcastle was removed and replaced by a 9ft Diamond after the 1pocket last year.... The local players would not play on the 10ft and since ED was already giving up part of his room for the arena taking another table out of making money for him was not very fair so the decision was made to swap it... Ed is a great guy and would have let the 10ft sit there but Pat felt that was just Ed being too nice and asked Greg to swap it....

Really because I was just on the phone with the person working the front desk, and they said it's not in the Accu-stats arena but it is set up.

Called back (after I read your post) the first girl that answered the phone was wrong,
so there you have it. I called before I posted it so I wouln't post that incorrectly as I wasn't sure, oh well.

This is now One Pocket instead of 10 Ball.

Shane is still in.
Scott Frost is now in also.

6 spots left. Who will it be?

2015 will be the first time I attend the DCC. I have never been to any major pool event. I have been reading everything on AZ for over a year now and it sounds like an absolute blast. Ideas used at the DCC, like the one in this thread, are genius. If pool is to grow as a sport then these guys are front and center propelling the industry forward. Smart MF'ers, they are....I can hardly wait to book my room. Im already excited about next year. This is how you create a buzz and get people interested!

Chris
If you go once you will never miss another. Indescribable really. One big pool party.
