I agree with you about the veneer colors. I have two JWs with the same veneers,
and the combination is as pretty as for any cue I own.

I agree that all of them seem to be great players, but ivory jointed ones, IMO, take it to the next level. I don't know if it is the flat face joint, or the ivory joint, but I have owned over 20 JW, (only one currently), but ALL of the ivory jointed ones were the best players, IMO.

I do have to laugh a little, though. Why I do not know why, but of all the cues I have owned, JW shafts are the shafts that have had more sanding, than any other cue I have owned. Bill commonly made shafts 13.25, 13.5 and even 14 mm, and I have seen them from 14mm (rarely) down to 10mm. I have had MANY shaft made for old Josswest cues I have picked up over the years.

Jay Halfert and Bill Stroud, I would love to interview both of them, and ask about this and several other questions. Jay saw and noticed points like this over the years and I have read his comments around this topic. I think the reason is JW cues were the "players" cue until the market got flooded with other great cuemakers.

IMO, old Josswest cues are probably the best value cue out there. They have taken a hit, like most cues. I have always had a soft spot for JW cues, and have often bought them sight unseen just on a verbal description. My recommendation would be to get a JW that is not from his "catalog" of standard cues. Try to pick up a "one off" or true custom.

We definitely agree on Joss West cues, except I like these, with the sleeved ivory joint / radial pin, and the sleeved stainless / radial.
I own both, and my player for quite a while was an all maple, sideways w, linen wrap, no rings, and stainless joint.
It might be the shafts on these cues, because I have 2-matching Haley shafts for the purple heart and snakewood cues, and I like the Joss West shafts better.
They really are amazing players

There still seems to be quite a bit of interest in Joss West cues, even though the prices are down.
