I'm done playing with Predator shafts. Each one I've played with the past year have seems to play dead and I've been seeing so many ferrule issues.... Done...

So I'm going to buy a OB shaft this next week and I'm trying to pick between a OB 2 and a OB classic pro. Looking for opinions from those who have played with both.

It's just called the OB Pro now if you are referring to the 11.75 shaft.
 
OB is out with a new line of shafts - check out their web page if you hadn't heard. Same four categories, but a new construction with what they say is slightly lower squirt and what seems to be a nicer look. I prefer the more classic white ferrule and more familiar hit in the classic pro.

Yes I know they came out with new shafts and I also know that the OB Pro is the 11.75
shaft with the white ferrule. The OB Classic is 12.75 w/white ferrule.

Then you have the OB1 > 12.75 and the OB2 > 11.75 both with the wood ferrules.

There is no OB shaft called the Classic Pro anymore, there was in the beginning though.

Yes fine, just saying there is no OB shaft called the Classic Pro anymore, there was in the beginning though.
 
I hated the predator shaft myself as well. They just feel very cheap. I would go with a OB Pro over the OB-2. I think it has a little bit more feel to it and its a bit more stiffer than the OB-2. I have played with both for awhile feel free to PM me if you have questions.
 
Loved the OB classic. Couldn't get used to the wood ferrule on the original OB. Bit of a dead hit. Much more feedback with the short ferrule.
 
I have had both on my player for a long time. The main difference to me is that the pro has a smaller shaft diameter and a bit better hit (I always use Kamui black soft or ss).

I wouldn't recommend the pro to a beginner or even a moderate player though because the shaft is so small you have to be very very accurate or you run the risk of not hitting the cueball exactly where you were aiming for. That being said the pro allows for much better control and accuracy if you have the stroke.

Both are great shafts with very little deflection so you can't go wrong with either.

As a side note- I would go through OB here on the forums. OB has amazing customer service and I rather giving them the money directly (plus they might cut you a deal if you ask nicely)
 
I have 4 OB2s. I have no idea how someone could think having the smaller diameter makes hitting the cb accurately any more difficult. Only a minute part of the tip contacts the cb regardless of the diameter. I think the smaller diameter actually helps hit the cb more accurately as it is easier to focus.

This is just not true, assuming the tips have the same tip shaping on them then the only difference is you'll get to the point of a miscue quicker on the skinnier shaft. There is no need to be more accurate with it as long as you aren't off to the point of miscuing.

It is true for a smaller radius tip shape, flatter is more forgiving regardless of shaft diameter.

I agree with nobcitypool and slide13. If anything, the OB Pro (formerly known as OB Classic Pro) have taught me to be more accurate with my tip placement on the cue ball. I can actually "see" where I'm hitting now, and if I go back to a "pool-recognized standard diameter shaft/tip" (i.e. 13mm), it feels like I'm aiming the end of a broomstick at the cue ball.

I had no problem adjusting to it when I received my first OB Classic Pro (what the product was known by back then), albeit I also play snooker, so that was a given with the smaller tip diameter.

You *do* have to have an accurate stroke, though. The smaller tip diameter will reveal inaccuracies in your stroke if you've rested on your laurels and depended on wider / flatter tips to get you "roundabout somewhere here" on the cue ball.

I have had both.

Honestly I like the Classics more but I really had to adjust virtually NOTHING when using maximum spin with the OB2

The Classic does deflect more but the way it feels is worth it to me.

But the last time I played with the OB2 I had a Kamui SS.

Now I play with an Outsville Ki-Tech hard. I may even switch to using his break tip as a playing tip after trying it at the DCC. I love hard tips.

I wonder if it would feel more solid with that tip. I'd love to try it if I could easily do it with the new shaft especially.



BUT also, with the new construction and advertised better feel, I might opt for the OB2 if it feels more like maple but firm with a super hard tip.




TLDR;

You can't go wrong with any OB product.

Tiger Ultra X LD

I've never tried an OB Classic shaft, but it's next on my list. I love the way the Tiger shafts play.
