Was that Chung who just beat Manalo 7-6?

Any of you guys manage to get the stream to work? I am trying to use the same link from yesterday, it does not seems to load up.

Working fine here. I'm using Safari on a Mac.

Can you provide the link guys? I am using a mac, no luck with safari , firefox or chrome.

Keeps getting this error message from fire fox:

There was

1 TPE player in group A, he won

1 TPE player in group B, he won

and

1 TPE player in group C, he won

There is only one TPE player left in the qualifiers now as 3 of their 4 guys took 3 of the 4 spots up for grabs in that first event.

TPE only had 4 guys total in the qualifiers, 3 are through already after the first event...

That is crazy strong.

To put this in context, I roughly counted 22 Filipinos in the 4 qualifier brackets, they got the 1 other spot.

the Chinese Taipei contingent is very strong. wont be surprised if they take the title this year.

Given the odds, TPE should have sent at least 8 players to the qualifiers... heehee

It looks to me like Stage 1 works as follows.

The 128 players are split into 4 groups of 32, playing single-elimination, alternate-break races to 7. The 4 winners from each of those 4 groups win a place in Stage 2.

Then the same 128 players (minus the 4 who have already qualified) are again arranged in 4 groups of 32, and the single-elimination races proceed again. This is the "2nd chance" part of Stage 1. Again, 4 winners emerge, to be placed into Stage 2.

Then the 128 players (now minus the 8 who have already qualified) are again arranged in 4 groups of 32, and the single-elimination races proceed for a third time ("3rd chance" part of Stage 1), resulting in the final 4 qualifiers for Stage 2.

So Stage 1 is essentially 12 32-player single-elimination tournaments, with each of the 128 Stage 1 players slotted into 3 of the tournaments.

Edit: An alternate way to view Stage 1 is that it is 3 consecutive 128-player (or, really, 128, then 124, then 120) single-elimination events (1st, 2nd, and 3rd chance), with the last 4 players in each event qualifying.

It looks like the "2nd Chance" Stage 1 event had 128 players again, rather than 124 plus 4 byes (for the players who qualified in the "1st Chance" event). So it looks like they used extra players on site to fill in the spots for the qualifiers. The 4 "fill-ins" lost in the first round 1-7, 1-7, 2-7, 4-7.

I was watching a little bit of the coverage today, and I know it's just the qualifying stage but I was a little shocked about the low level of play from some players. I saw a Russian guy trounce some dude from Saudi Arabia who looked like it was a stretch calling him an APA 5.

Pool in the Arabic counties in general is a hobby, religion and culture prohibit gambling, so most of young new players have never been exposed to real pressure. All expenses of 95% of them if not all, Arab players are fully paid for, win or loose. There are great players, will wait couple more days, hope one or two qualify for 2nd stage.
