I should know that and don't, never took a Tach to it. You want the tip to stay some what cool and brand new sharpened razor blade to cut so not that high a speed.
 
That's what I did - I put it on the lowest setting then used a brand new razor blade to shape it -- it turned out pretty good for my first layered tip install / shaping. Just wanted to make sure I did things right.
