Local sports bar where I frequented 3-4 times a week. They only have 4 tables, but a weekly tournament, and free pool on Wednesdays. I got 4-5 of my friends to start coming to the tournament, as well as meeting me there a few times a week. Always spent $ on drinks, took home food a couple times a week, and tipped well. Easily spent $200 plus a week there, not to mention what my friends I brought in spend.
Wednesday I stopped in after work, ordered a bucket (5 beers, in an iced bucket always $12). Couple friends came in so bought 4 more beers when bucket was gone.
Cash out, and bartender tells me $36. $12, bucket, 4 $3.00 beers....WTF?
Tells me since "EVERYONE" just takes advantage of the free pool, no more bucket specials, and beers $4.00 on "free pool" night per the owner.
This change was not communicated, or posted anyplace. I tossed $50, and let her know I would not be back.
Good plan, make up for the deadbeats by taxing the regular, paying customers.
Bar owner called me twice Thursday wondering if I, or any of my buddies were showing up for the tournament. Let him know why I would not be back, and wished him luck.
EDIT: Wanted to add, it's not the $. I have no problem paying $4-$5 a beer in nicer bars, or on the beach. But don't appreciate being blindsided in a dive that smells like urine. Clean your bathrooms if you want to charge premium prices.
