occolo was on top of the ball and his action showed that he knew it was a bad hit "not his first time"

I agree with you 100%!!

It was a pretty obvious foul even while watching on an iPad...both announcers saw the foul immediately. I can only assume mike's angle was obscured.

I'm not saying whether a player should or shouldn't call falls on himself, but IMO Dennis 100% knew he fouled.

For those not watching.... Dennis had BIH and was attempting to hit the 2 ball leaving MD hooked. The 2 and the 8 were right next to each other and Dennis pretty clearly hit the eight first.

Dennis had ball in hand on the 2-ball attempting to play a safety and 3-foul Mike. The cue ball hit the 8 first before hitting the two. Mike didn't see it. I didn't notice if a ref was there or not and he didn't see it either; however, both announcers saw it.

For the TV table, which is being televised for the future, they really should have a full-time ref doing all the full-time racking. What a joke!

It's certainly possible that Dennis knew he fouled, but it's not entirely clear that he knew he fouled. As Schmidt said, Dennis' focus was on the 2-ball, and the 8 barely moved, so Dennis might not have seen it.

It's now 4-3 Dennis, with Mike at an open table.

Mike just tied the match at 4-4.

If you yourself the shooter is not 100% you fouled then you don't call it on yourself.

I think john and mark were being nice.

That might be true. Dennis was very close to the shot, and it would have been odd for him to mishit the 2 as badly as he did without realizing he grazed the 8, but I'm not willing to claim he definitely knew he fouled.

No ref ???

Ref was present but not watching the hit as far as I could see. It was pretty clear to me that it hit the 8 first without having to see the playback. MW and JS both called it as well. Dennis definitely knew he fouled. How could he not see it? Certainly he was looking for the possibility, and he was right over it so he had a bird's-eye view. Pretty lame if you ask me, but Mike should have requested for the ref to watch the shot. That part is his own fault.

With BIH...probably the furthest thing from anyone's mind to anticipate a foul.

Your right that type of action protects both players the sport and ones character. It puts the shooter in a bad light if he did NOT see/realize the foul (in reality) then others might''assume'' you knew it and did intentionally not call it on yourself. Once that "Rumormill" starts churning, others will call you a cheat and so on, no one wants that on their character.

In the BCAPL rule book, the shooting player is not allowed to call a referee to watch their own hit..........but thinking about how much this incident can effect others, I think it should strongly be considered, if it's not a pro rule already.

On any real close call I invite my opponent to call someone to watch the hit. Otherwise they are trying to watch me hit it and it's gonna be a shark or an accident.

Any time I foul I say so. Orcullo has been here before. He knows what happened.
