To all the Mike Dechaine Nay-Sayers.

Sorry Paul.... I spent 2 hours tonight working on 1 thing... It wasn't rack shenanigans... I racked the balls frozen each time... I practiced my 9ball break...

You see what you never learned was that if you practice enough you can learn how to break the balls to where you can make a ball and get a shot on the 1 ball.... It's not luck... It's not Karma... it's putting in the time...

For the 9ball break if you can break and have the back ball bank towards the corner on the side you are breaking from you are doing it right and will run out aplenty.... For 10ball the 1ball slides by the cueball and heads for the corner...

I know you think it's luck or cheatng but it really isn't... IF you had a tournament of guys that knew how to break you wouldn't need the "hey you didn't make anything but here's your trophy for being a sport and playing... shoot again rules"....

Chris

Chris, You are practicing your trick shot template. Without it, your break doesn't work.

I don't think Mikes ability is in question, very very good player, but in all honesty he has acted like a **** in recent times and people are stil lnot convinced he has changed

when he does he will get more recognition and his game will improve I think. think he has a good chance at US open 9 ball, maybe him Shaw final?

Nope racking my own with the a Delta 13... I have a new set of Brunswick Centennials and the cloth is new... I always prefer racking your own with the Delta13 if the balls and cloth are in good shape... Templates are for all of the other times... Bad cloth, missmatched balls, some idiot has tapped the balls in wrong.. etc etc..... Cool thing tho is the template does in seconds what it takes longer to do the old fashioned way... Freeze ALL the balls....

Chris <<<< Who's break works with or without a template because he practices breaking... For hours...

My appologies, Chris. I will reword it. You are practicing your trick shot.

I read your signature. What are your thoughts of crapping balls in during the game itself? 9 ball is not called shot, are those tournaments you run called shot / called safe / pass shot back if hooked by accident on a miss? If not you should change it to those called shot rules or your signature is only 10% right since 90% of the time the crap shooting is done during the game, especially during low level play. DONT reward a player for a lucky miss, DONT punish a player because his opponent missed and left a lucky safe.

If you don't want players to get penalized or rewarded for not making or making a ball on the break, the players should not be penalized for a lucky shot if their opponent misses but leaves them behind a ball.

Although I'm not sure how the racking thing got into the thread about Mike, although he is one of the top few breakers in the game.

Mark Wilson needs to change his mind and put Mike on the Mosconi Team he has proven himself the guy can flat out play he might win the US Open and not make the team how bad is that

If it's not against the rules it's not cheating, now is it ?

Pattern racking is against the rules....that's why I stopped doing it.

2.2 Nine Ball Rack
The object balls are racked as tightly as possible in a diamond shape, with the one ball at the apex of the diamond and on the foot spot and the nine ball in the middle of the diamond. The other balls will be placed in the diamond without purposeful or intentional pattern. (See Regulation 4, Racking / Tapping of Balls.)

Mark Wilson wants robots. He is riding the power trip.
What is he coaching?

Teams are made of individual personalities, that's what makes them unique and bond.
As a coach, part of your job is to coach each personality and get the best out of them, again, he wants robots, and what is he coaching? what is his job? Let's visit the Navy Seals, give me a break.

For the most part he will be making a lineup card for 5 players. A freaking Monkey can do that.

He is not Bill Belichik, Parcells, Phil Jackson, or any other great coach. He is not coaching 54 players, day in and day out.

While I am not a big fan of Dechaine, he deserves to be on that team ahead of Corey in my book.
The Mosconi Cup is a joke. Make it a competition and invite the rest of the World.

My dog can beat Mika in a race to 5, and he uses a house cue. The U.S. team can surely win races to 5.

I don't understand all the nut hugging, the guy is not rising from the grave to save us, he is making out a lineup card, at the same time trying to teach people a lesson, because they have their own personality that should be taken on as a coach.

A change is pool is needed; having Dechaine bend over and take the paddle is ridiculous.
If you are going to be coach, be a coach, not the school teacher with a paddle in his hand.

Well said but wasted breath here.

Mike is gonna shock the world today. Nobody gonna stop that. How poetic having Mr Wilson with a ringside seat to his winning while team Mosconi ended up as far as their talents could get them. Mike already proved himself. He earned it and today he will get his due.

I understand your thoughts. The thing is, when it comes to American pool, there are sometimes politics at play, meaning there ain't a damn thing any of us can do about it. Sure, we can complain about the current status quo, but the political machine has started. The only thing any of us can do is sit back, watch, and hope for the best. :)

Mark Wilson has his cheerleaders on this forum, from the begining of the campaign to choose him as Mosconi Cup coach. Just like any other high-profile pool person, whatever you say against him, I'm sure one of his proponents will come forth to counter your thoughts with one of their quips. It's been happening to me all week. :grin-square:

I agree 100 %. Although it may come off as an attack on Mark Wilson it is not.
I could have worded things a little differently.
It's more about the entire thought process and the art of coaching.

I do wish them all the best, they are fine players, and I am as Patriotic as they come.

Every yr a player gets left off that should be on the team ,,the nut hugging is the MD fans who don't understand team chemistry ,,, just yesterday one of the best receivers in the NFL was traded for basicly a hand shake ,, becuase he's a cancer to the team ,, happens all the time ,,
Maybe you or the rest of the huggers don't have a problam with the lack of chemistry on the team or bad sportsmanship but many do including Mark,,
Playing on the team is not a right it's a privalidge and a Honor you earn the spot thru play and sportsmanship , something past Captians lost sight of , last yr was the icing on the cake ,,and this yr with the Wearwoves of London in attendance they will rip your lungs out Jim if they see they can get under your skin
Marks doing Mike a favor because he would be a easy target for that group , as Mikes meltdowns aren't science fiction their legendary facts

Maybe you should read my post again. Somewhere in there it says,
While I am not a big fan of Dechaine, etc. I bolded it for you.
I am guessing reading comprehension is not one of your strong points.

I am well aware of Percy Harvin , Seattle won the Super Bowl, go figure.

Have you ever coached? I mean other than standing on the sideline of little Cindys soccer game with the Starbucks brigade.

Is it me, or has Mike lost some weight since the Eastern States championship? He looked more fit at the Open, which bodes well for him and US pool.

having a chance of actually winning can't be all that bad for team-chemistry

Yeah I talked to Mike a few weeks ago and he has been really working hard on a diet. He has lost quite a bit of weight in doing workouts and mostly changing what he eats. He is trying to make all positive changes in his life. But regardless of how hard he tries unfortunately some people will never get past the ole Mike. I wish him the best of luck in all his endeavours.

I was the referee for several of Mike's matches at the US Open.
I found him to be very personable and honest and a crowd pleaser.
There was a dispute about racking at the beginning of his quarter-finals match with Dennis, but it was quicky settled. Mike, by the way, way in the right. Although Mike lost the match, he shook hands with Dennis and congratulated him on his victory.

Mike follows the rules and is a fierce competitor. His 9-Ball and 10-Ball skills are world-class. Everyone knows that.
I think that if Mike continues to mature and improve his game, he could be a USA Mosconi Cup Team Member next year.

This is great to hear straight from a US Open ref.

It doesn't surprise me.

Mike certainly has an extremely bright future ahead. :)

thx for posting about this.

best,
