Shane's racking "trick"

It seems like a lot of players are disgusted by all the racking issues and finding what shane did was unfair. I would love to be able to rewatch Shane's racking technique from the Orcullo match.

I would be willing to bet that some people would pay for the privilege of racking at the US Open.

Hey, you just gave me an idea. Maybe somebody should start an association for racking. One must be accredited to be a professional racker. Then they can get hired by tournament people. As Jayson Shaw says, the tournament promoter can make the entry fee a wee bit higher to pay for the rackers.

Great job for a retired pool pro. Can you imagine having, say, Buddy Hall or Nick Varner rack the balls? It would be cool.

Here's the deal...

What Shane did I do all the time, it's not a racking trick...

What they're trying to claim is that Shane is pushing the one into the next two balls to create separation between the center of those two balls and that it is only that separation that is allowing him to make the wing ball.

The problem with that is that he has made the wing ball several times when it has been verified that ALL the balls are frozen...

All he's really doing is what I do all the time and that's to roll the rack forward which sometimes pulls the one slightly away from the first two balls and then feather the one so that it rolls back into the front two balls.

It's just to get a solid rack, not to do anything nefarious or anything.

So....we wanna go to a template rack since Shane has found a way to make balls under these rules faster than the rest? Well he won the us open bar box with a template rack. With the magic rack we are gonna have another plethora of issues come up. This is never ending. Just deal with the rule set and nobody whine. Not that hard.

The problem with having a neutral racker...

The problem with having a neutral racker is that there is no such thing...

Imagine if said 'Neutral Racker' has laid money on one or the other???

No one allowed to inspect the rack, that's just begging for degenerates to volunteer....

I think time clocks on racks, rack your own, is the best way to handle it.

Of course, I do this all the time...everyone does...especially late in an event after people have repeatedly been pounding the spot all week.

It looked to me Shane kept the 6-ball as the wing ball in his last match.
It did not go in most of the time but he was still getting the better of it after his break.
It doesn't matter really.
I think Shane's at least a 3-game favorite in a race to 13 in the finals.
Not betting though.

Well, I'm jumping right on that Shane Train for the win. USA, ALL THE WAY. All aboard?

Very good ideas...You could even take it further and build a program!

What about this...Do pro players have enough conviction regarding the rack to have a players union organized and pay yearly professional dues to support it? Rackers could be paid out of the fund and using certified individuals throughout the country. Offer an online class to get certification or possibly even a face to face setting.:grin-square:

As part of the union, you could get hotel and travel discounts. Offer medical insurance if enough players signed up for it to get a group rate.

Possibilities are endless really. But at the end of the day is racking that big of an issue or is it mostly sour grapes?

That's what I've been told by a few pros as well. It seems it's the "loser racks" rules that causes most of the problems. It's a lot easier to rig a slug rack for your opponent than it is to wire certain balls with gaps for yourself. That's the reason why Shane and Jayson decided to play "winner racks" at Turning Stone this year. Too much time cooking too many crooked and slug racks all week long there for my taste.

When Niels can demonstrate how to wire the wing ball every time using strategic gaps and a "chain reaction", I'll believe there's something to it. In the meantime, this is totally unfair to Shane IMO and I'm pretty pissed by all of these accusations myself. I can't imagine what Shane is going through today.

I really hope the US Mosconi cup team can rally around this, because there definitely seems to be an anti-American leaning in the comments to Niels' post.

Wrong doing my a$$. If he were breaking rules then yes but fact is he has a better break. This is people trying to downplay his success. Does he need to rack for them? It's rack your own.... Let them put some work in so there might actually be a problem

I interrupt this regularly scheduled program to say that one of this year's U.S. Open players said there is payout drama -- again -- at the Open. Say it isn't so!

I agree with this quote!

The rule makers asked for player input and got "bad" advice in my opinion.

There are several viable solutions. Just unfortunate the same few pro players seem to be pushing the "agenda" and the rest are along for the ride!

My opinion is some Euros have always thumbed their noses at Americans, while they have a silver Euro spoon stuck in their mouthes.

Meanwhile, many of the Euro pros enjoy living in the States. Go figure.

I know. It's like politicians, isn't it? The people that are decent and fit to be them, don't won't to be involved, except for a rare few. How about an idea the commentator had?? (I forget which one) Play 9 ball except rack them in a ten ball pattern with a neutral ball (such as a measle cue ball up there in the one ball spot. After the break you simply pick up the neutral ball and throw it in the pocket and play out nine ball...
