Playing the Devil's Advocate for Barry Behrman

That "not our business" line is getting really old.

You may not care if this game goes to crap or is run by thieves, cons and bums, but some do.
And just what will you do to change it?

Expressing moral outrage on the internet does nothing.

Why do any of us need to explain ourselves to you? It could be nothing but internet griping, or maybe we will make an effort to not support anything related to the US Open while Barry is embarrassing himself, but one thing is for sure:

No one is under any obligation to explain a damn thing to your drama gueen azz.

Russ, Diamond does provide tables for the US Open for free as well as provide money as a sponsor to Barry. Also we provide additional money working with Pat Fleming for TV coverage overseas. Diamond definitely sees value in doing its part to keep the long running event going. Diamond does not know Barry's total finances concerning the tournament, but realizes payment issues to players must be resolved. Greg/Diamond

I went to the DCC in 2008 and it was the best pool tournament that I have ever attended.
To find out that you support the US Open is just icing on the cake. If we had more folk like you in the pool world our problems would be over.

Keep up the good work. Thank you.

The title of this thread is an insult to the devil. Not even the devil would advocate for this bum!;)

Didn't the US Open use to be played in his poolroom? Since he no longer has the audience to justify using a rented hall/hotel, why not just move it back to the poolroom? He might be able to turn a profit there.

{cocking my head like a confused puppy}

Didn't they play it at his pool room this year?

:p

... IMHO BB just needs to stop promising more than he can deliver. Tell the players that everyone will be paid on the spot, except the top 4 players will get paid within 30 days since he needs that time to collect his credit card receipts, etc.

Your proposal is similar to one I made 3 years ago when the ABP was getting involved. Except I suggested paying the top 4 in part at the event's conclusion and the balance later. Here it is: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showpost.php?p=3100531&postcount=47

well, from a 30,000 foot view it looks like without diamond the sport would pretty much nowhere. Sure OB and Kamui are good sponsors too, but man, just think where things would be without Greg and Diamond.

JB.

So Banks has no right to express his view?

You seem to have deep pockets and have expressed your views many a times on AZ.

How about you show us how you can make the U.S. Open a winning investment.

PM sent....

Got your PM. I think you were told a fib.

And Greg from Diamond just let everyone know that Barry gets the tables for free PLUS money for sponsorship. Gee imagine that.

The woah is me, I'm broke and losing a fortune line every year simply doesn't hold water with me.

When reading this nonsense I couldn't help but think of....

End of story, Barry is sticking his neck, money and effort out, to put on a very popular pool event. We all should be thankful. The players not getting paid in a prompt fashion is their problem. Not a good thing, but not our business. Nobody holds a gun to their heads to make them play in the event. Apparently, the players feel winning or placing well and getting streaming exposure for their sponsor is worth the chance of slow pay, or no pay. It's business folks, that's how the world works. Be happy the event happens.

Yeah, while reading this absolute nonsense, I couldn't help but think of....

"Thank You Sir, May I Have Another..."

Jaden

If Behrman decided not to run or produce the Open or just up and dies, who's going to step in and take over? Who would want to?

Macgy, last time i check, it is pool we are talking about ! it is not your high school football game?
Since I have no idea what you are talking about, I will just add, what after 39 years is it he has not learned. He has the same problems every year and it is more then just the money. Just read some of the complaints by people who attended.
No one would complain if he had to scale it down a bit to make for a better tournament experience.

What is up with everyone going off about rights to express views. OF COURSE you have the right to express your views. Express away.

But understand that saying you 'care' about this sport and actually DOING SOMETHING about it to change what you don't like is a world apart.

Most of us "care" - few of us care enough to get off our asses and away from the keyboard and actually do something. That's my opinion.

I have no interest in doing the US Open or any tour, tournament etc.....

If I had the money then I would do one and I am fairly sure it would be profitable. The reason is because I would do it like Kevin Trudeau did by locking the players up in contracts and ensuring that I had a product to sell.

If I did the US Open I would have a full field PAID for by a minimum of two months in advance of the event with a waiting list.

And when the players showed up I would have the certified checks or the cash sitting there waiting to be disbursed. And each player who cashed would get their check from the TD within five minutes of being eliminated from the event.

And I would fill the stands, sell a crapload of US Open clothes and other trinkets. Clean up on concessions, and ensure that everyone there would enjoy a rocking great week of the finest pool shooting by the world's greatest players.

But I have zero interest and neither do the millionaires here who are much smarter than me.

The way I look at it is this...I don't care about Barry Behrman and his foibles. The US Open happens and it's great to sweat and whether the players get paid or not is between them and Barry. They show up knowing what they risk and that to me is a legitimate exercise of the freedom to choose the risk/reward that suits them.

These are adults, all of them. Everyone who is connected with the US Open knows all about Barry Behrman and as long as they continue to show up Barry has zero incentive to change.

People like you should put on tournaments. It doesn't have to be the biggest to be good. A $10,000 added tournament is a nice size tournament. Manageable, enjoyable, fun.

Someone give me $10,000 added and I'll put on an event better run than any event in the US. Give me $50,000 added and it would be better than any event in the world today.

If your expense to get to the tournament and stay 5 days is $3000.00, you would hope the 10th place be about that much to guarantee some money back, so that is 30k for 1st prize, so 10k added will not do much to bring top players from all over the world..

Only two people that i know they can run such big scale tournaments in the USA, not UK, or Philippine and that is Barry, and the other guy is lockup for 10 years behind bars. If it is not for Barry, US open would have died long time ago. There is no money for high scale pool in the USA sorry.Barry is squeezing every penny to make it happen, i hope he will be able to pay the players as promised.
